Confused by Genie, Genie+, Lightening Lane, etc.

Let me see if I’ve got this all straight in my mind. I buy Genie+ now. I’m going mid January. I cannot do anything until day of. At 7 each day I buy the ILL$, book the headliner I want. Then I can pick non headliner LL rides. Is this correct?

Does the order of the rides matter? Say I get up at 7;00 and heading to MK but know I’m going to be hopping to HS later so I book slinky for 6;00 pm. At 11:00 (2 hours after park open) I book TOT for 7:15 pm. So now I have my HS rides set. Theoretically at 1:00 I could book something at 3:00 pm at MK. (if available). But I would not be able to book again until 2 hours out because I still have attractions. hanging out for later.
Is this accurate? And is this a good strategy?

It's based off your last ride selection. If at 1pm, you select an mk ride for 130, you can go to the ride at 130 and once through all the tapstiles, can book another ride. But yeah, if each ride is more than 2 hours apart, you can select a new pass after 2 hours.

The annoying thing with Genie+ is you can't select your return time, so stacking is pretty nice but you find yourself deciding between booking something besides TOT at 7:15 (because right now it's at 3:50) or chancing another 2 hour wait to get it at 7:15. It works out sometimes, sometimes it doesn't.

We just got back and stacking for a park hop was the best thing about Genie+, we got 1 ride out of it in MK before we had to jump to HS because of ride timing. (things not available soon at MK and things at HS already getting late for a stack)

You can do this. I would only do it for one ride, otherwise you're missing out on too many Magic Kingdom rides. If you're booking at a different park than your reservation, the times will start at 2 pm automatically.

Good point. I’m just concerned that if I wait, there may be nothing left at HS for genie+. As it is, I’m hearing some are gone at 7:01 am.

The free version of Genie is a planning software for your day. It shows you ride wait times, restaurant availability, and showtimes all in one place. It will recommend times for you to do things based on your preferences that you tell it.

Genie+ is the paid upgrade which allows you to reserve lightning lane times. Lightning lane is the new name for what used to be Fastpass. Genie+ allows you to reserve times on the app, one at a time, to come back and use the Lightning Lane. There is no free access to Lightning Lane. You can make one reservation per attraction, per day. If you park hop and have already paid for Genie+ for the day, you also get it at your second park. It costs $15 per day and you can buy it for your whole trip or one day at a time. You don't get a discount for buying it for your whole trip.

Genie+ allows you to reserve all but two attractions. The two most popular attractions in each park use individual Lightning Lane access. You pay for the specific ride and are able to select a return time. You do not need to purchase Genie+ in order to buy the individual lightning lanes. The rides using ILLs are 7 Dwarfs and Space Mountain in MK, Frozen Ever After and Remy's in Epcot, Mickey and Minnie's Runaway Railway and Rise of the Resistance in Studios, and Flight of Passage and Everest in Animal Kingdom. Prices range from $7 to $15 and can change every day.

Genie+ reservations can be made starting at 7 am for everyone who has purchased it. You can make another reservation after using your first one or two hours after park open, whichever comes first. After that, it's every 2 hours or after using your next pass.

On-site guests can buy individual lightning lane passes at 7 am, and off-site guests can buy them at park opening. It's not known if Disney releases more ILLs at park opening for off-site guests, but I don't believe they do based on experiences I've heard.

Slinky Dog Dash sells out very quickly, so I do think it would be a good idea to get that one at 7 am. I would probably pass on Tower since the line isn't as consistently bad and Genie+ has more availability, but if you didn't care about using it at all in your first park then go for it.

Thank you for this detailed explanation. I’ve been following this thread and reading chunks of information at a time but it’s good to have it in one place.
Does anyone know the cost of the individual LL?

They vary every day, but I believe they will be $15 at most.

Sorry if this seems repetitive, but I too am a little confused.

Ok, so at 7 AM I can make a G+ selection. Then, once in the park, I either have to use my G+ selection, or wait 2 hours until can make another.

Now, once I either use my first selection or 2 hours has passed, I now make another selection.

My question is this: since you can only hold one selection at a time, what if it is now, say 11AM,and I grab one for, say 4 PM. Can make another selection at 1PM (2 hours), or do I have to use the 4PM one first? If I can make another at 1, I can now hold 2 G+ selections?

Does this question even make sense?

The question makes total sense.

Yes, there are times where you can hold 2 reservations at once. If you make a reservation at 11 am for a ride at 4 pm, you can make another reservation at 1 pm for another ride. Say that return time is 6 pm, you can make a 3rd reservation at 3 pm and hold 3 at one time. It's rare for that to happen, but it could depending on what rides you choose and if you park hop.

You can hold multiple at a time.
