Confused about SW/changing dates/refunds.....

I'm confused on SW's refund for airfare? I've seen different things while reading the threads here and think I may have just confused myself.

If I were to purchase SW airfare for certain dates in October....only to find out that I am unable to go due to a member of our party having to report for hurricane duty (works in the insurance field), can I change those dates? Is there a penalty for changing dates? Or do I just eat the tickets or decide to go without the other person?

With SWA there is no charge for a ticket change, if the flight goes up you pay the difference, if it goes down you get a credit. If you cancel completely, you get a credit. You have to use the credit 1 year from the original booking date,not flight date. All and all they are very liberal with their cancelations. A suggestion, if you are going to book, book all passengers seperatly, and one way at a time. That way if you get a cancelation you just cancel the person that can't go, or if the price goes down one way and not the other you can get a credit. Any more questions just ask.

Hi It is my understanding that you would cancel trip and get Tickless travel funds in your account(linked to confirmation code you got when you bought ticket) and you can use that from a year from when you purchased the ticket originally. Say you bought now June 15 and had to cancel the Oct trip you could rebook with those funds but must travel by next June 15. when you book the next trip you will see a place to use your ticketless travel funds and you put it the code and use say you paid 200 round trip you would have 200 to use for this trip. Does that make sense???? Maybe book each person indiviually. Not sure about canceling 1/2 the reservation. Carol
