Is the Havensight Mall area withing walking distance to Port?

What is the shopping area that you have to take a taxi to called?

Thanks :)

When the Magic docks at St. Thomas, Havensight shopping is rigth across the street.

Just back from 2/7 Magic, we went to Hard Rock. It isn't very big, but it is in Charlotte Amailie. We had to tender in this time, and that was right where we were let off. It is right across the street off to the left, if you are still at the water. Anyone should know where it is. There is also a Harley Davidson Store which is where hubby wanted to go. Just ask where it is, but if you tender in, it should be just across the street and down a block or two, but on the main road there. NOt down the side street to where the jewelry stores are, but along the main front. Hope this helps Judy

No, the Hardrock Cafe is right on the main thoroughfare that goes to the downtown shopping area, looking right out onto the bay - about 1 1/2 miles from the ship. Havensite is basically tourist shops that are right there at the port. Definitely, if you want to shop in St. Thomas, go to "downtown" Charlotte Amalie! This is the shopping capitol of the caribbean! The Havensite mall, is just that, sort of a strip shopping mall. GO TO DOWNTOWN. Go back off of the main road 1 block to the "Shopping promenade" area. Then take a few side streets (narrow as they may be). This is where you will find the greatest shopping. Quaint little shops, as well as sprawling stores that reach from one end of the block to another. Little cafes and restaraunts are everywhere. Please, if you are into shopping, don't just stick to Havensite. You'll miss the whole point! Take a taxi (or walk the mile or so) to the town shopping area. Taxis are everwhere and run constantly to and from the dock. (about $3.00 pp). If you are looking for t-shirts and basic little stuff, havensite is fine.

Actually it depends on whether you dock at WICO or you're at Inner Anchorage and have to tender in. If you dock at WICO, you'll be right at the Havensight Mall, with Hard Rock and downtown Charlotte Amalie being about a 5 - 10 minute cab ride away, it's not safe to walk. If you're at Inner Anchorage and have to tender in, you'll be dropped off right in downtown Charlotte Amalie, very close to where Hard Rock is located. All of the stores at Havensight have shops in Charlotte Amalie also, so you won't miss any shopping opportunities. There is really no reason to visit Havensight if you've tendered, since it's the same shops, and if you're docked, unless you REALLY want to go to Hard Rock, no reason to go down to Charlotte Amalie.

minnimoms....we were at Hard Rock also in St. Thomas last week. We stopped in for milkshakes before our island tour!!!

I agree with the above. I am not aware of any store at the mall which does not have at least as big a store downtown. However, there are many downtown places that are not represented at the mall.

I actually liked tendering better....first time for us on the 2/7 Magic. All our other cruises have docked.

Actually, you're lucky if you get to tender into St. Thomas because you will be dropped off in the heart of the shopping district. There is a "straw" market in a park at the east end of the district that is always fun to go to as well. If you are at all interested in visiting the "real" St. Thomas caribbean shopping experience, please, skip the mall and head downtown. You won't regret it.
As to the safety of walking from the docked - Havensite area, no, it isn' the greatest walk, but I wouldn't classify it as dangerous. There is a run down sidewalk that goes along with the traffic and it just kind of follows along the harbor. There are some rundown buildings and ruined hotels that weren't rebuilt after the last bad hurricane, not much to see, except cars and maybe some iguanas, and it can get hot. I like to walk it though. If you aren't used to walking much, take a taxi.
