We have an April Use Year. We have a trip booked in October to BCV and VB. I will have 127 points left to bank by the end of November.
I am hoping to treat DS and DDiL next year (2012) to F & W trip. We will need a 2 BR at BCV. But October 2012 and a long way away for a young couple to commit to.
So I am thinking of booking DH and I for a Spring F & G trip. We have never been and I think he would love it. If DS and DDiL commit to the Fall F & W trip I would cancel the Spring trip.
So here is my question.
The 11 month window for Spring is open. If I use the remaining points I have to book in the Spring, never banking them, and then we cancel that trip past my banking window, what happens to those points. Would I be better off banking them now, then booking the Spring trip?
Sorry, I just can't get my head around this one.
Thanks for any help

The rule is: If you cancel a trip past your banking window (assuming it's still more than 30 days away from the trip which has even more restrictions), you cannot bank those points. They would have to be used for a trip before the end of your use year that they were in.

For your situation: Your remaining 127 points from your 2011 use year would have to be banked to use them for a trip between April 1 2012 to March 31 2013. So unless your F&G trip is in March, you will have to bank them to use them. And once they are banked, that is where they will stay.

If your trip is in March and you decide to cancel next year, you will be out of luck as the points will be unable to be banked after November 30, 2011 and will have to be used by March 31, 2012.

If you book a March trip now and cancel it prior to November 30, then you can bank those points to be used next year.

Yes having to bank 4 months before your use year, really can mess things up at times.

I liked the way it used to be, at least you could bank some of the points.
