Confused about audio cd vs data cd

I finally took the plunge and got a new computer with a cd/dvd burner on it, but now am clueless as to how to use it. I want to be able to burn music and also to put my digital pictures on cd. Do you have to use the audio cd's when you are burning music and the data cd's for pictures? or does it matter?

Also, what is the difference in a cd-r and a cd+r? From what I can figure out, I should probably be using the cd-r?

Never heard of a CD+R. Perhaps you are confusing CD's with DVDs. There are two competing formats for DVDs, DVD-R and DVD+R. But as far as I know, all recordable CDs are of the CD-R format.

Regarding Audio CDRs, you only need to use those if you have a standalone CD recorder. If you are using a CD burner in a computer, you don't have to pay extra for the Audio CDRs. Standalone CD recorders require the more expensive Audio CDRs due to licensing requirements by the RIAA. It's like paying a royalty for the blank media. There is no royalty on "regular" CDRs.

I think you are refering to the point where you are given the choice of creating a Audio or Data CD. Audio CDs are formatted so that you can play the CD in any Audio device ie Boom Box or Car Radio. A Data CD format will allow you to share data which includes MP3 type formats with other computers.

Networking depends on what you want to do. If you want to share a DSL/Cable Connection I would recomend a linksys router either wired or wireless

On a cd-r once you record on it you can't add any more. If you make a mistake and only record 1 song that's it. On the cd+r you can go back and add more until it is full. You will mostly see the cd-r they cost less

You can only network with DSL or cable. You need a router for 1 computer and an adapter for each computer you want to network.
