Confused about APs with room only reservations

I have booked a split stay between AKL and the BC in March using the AP discount. We are a family of four. The person I spoke with told me if I bought the tickets with the room it would become a package. She also said all the tickets would have to be the same type - either all APs or all another type. So I did not get tickets with the reservation. My question is, can I buy an Annual Pass now and wait to purchase the other tickets? and Can I purchase the pass through the Disney website without my reservation becoming a package? Hope this is not too confusing.

Just go online and purchase your tickets/AP separately from the room and then when your ready purchase the other tickets link everything via your MDE and your good to go. Unless you actually add the tickets to your purchase when booking the room it won't "change to a package".

So by purchasing separately - via WDW or a reputable ticket seller this keeps your reservation room only and as such you can buy different tickets for everyone.

Yes, you can actually wait to buy all the tickets, if you want. I would have all the tickets purchased and linked in your MDE account before you get to your FP+ window, 60 days prior to your check-in date. Your reservation should also be on your MDE and it should say "room only". You purchase your tickets on a separate transaction.
Hope this helps--have a great trip!

Thanks for the replies. Now I have a couple more questions. If I buy the AP now, can I wait to activate it when I get there? And I read something about having to pick it up at a park entrance, is that correct?

You buy it now, and can link it to your account right away. It isn't activated until you go to guest services when you get to WDW. At that time you give them your magic band and ID and they activate it.

You can get them at Disney Springs guest relations also. We got there the day before we were going to a park and did that. We werent staying onsite that time, and didnt want to worry about paying for parking then and trying to get reimbursed.

If you purchase in advance which most people do to get the 60 day window for FP+ then the AP will be on the OP's MB so there is no need to go to D Springs just to activate the AP instead of just doing it at the first park they visit.
In your case you could have been refunded your parking fee when you activated your AP.
