CONFIRMED. This is definitely in the rumor column, unless someone else can confirm it.

Wow this is on the front page of the DIS's wdwinfo.com website!

2ND UPDATE: This is now listed on the Plan Disney website as an answer to a question about luggage transfers between resorts: https://plandisney.disney.go.com/question/luggage-transport-available-november-split-stays-459575/

Keep in mind that luggage transfers can take a few hours, so keep anything you may need during the day on hand, such as medications, your tickets, etc. Bell Services cannot transfer perishable items, so those will need to also go with you.

UPDATE: Multiple people in the DVC Fan group confirmed they were unable to transfer refrigerated goods using bell services. One person mentioned a CM who told them it was due to an incident with a guest’s medicine that caused them to change this policy, so seems like it was a liability issue.

I wish Disney would officially announce this because it is going to be a surprise to a lot of people.

I saw today on a DVC Facebook group, posted today (7/24/21):

"FYI- as of today Disney will no longer carry your cold bags of perishables/medicines to another resort when you do a split stay. I spoke to a manager who said it came down from corporate yesterday. If you have a hard sided cooler packed with ice they'll take that."

Curious if anyone is at Disney now and can confirm this?

I definitely have had refrigerated goods transferred between resorts during a split stay (staying at 2 different Disney World resorts), and I'd be disappointed if they stopped doing it. Sort of feel like Disney is slowly taking more and more things away too even though this one is a pretty small perk.

I could definitely work around the problem to get my stuff to the next resort myself (via rental car or ride share) and leave it with Bell Services, but if this is true, it is definitely annoying - although somewhat understandable as some have said perhaps they were having too many problems with things leaking and having to clean it up.

But I haven't heard this anywhere else though, so just curious if anyone has experienced this same restriction?

I left on the 19th of July and had no problem getting refrigerated things moved. Nothing was mentioned that a policy change was happening either.

This is directly from the Disney World Mail Services site......

Mail Services | Walt Disney World Resort (go.com)

Getting Grocery Orders Delivered to Your Disney Resort Hotel Room
Grocery deliveries are subject to the Disney Resort hotel’s policies and may be unavailable, limited or restricted. If the delivery service vendor requires age or ID verification, Guests are required to meet and accept delivery directly from the vendor; Disney Resort hotels will not accept delivery of such orders on behalf of any Guest.
For other grocery orders delivered to the Disney Resort hotel during your vacation, a $6 fee will be charged to your room account for each grocery delivery order brought to your room by Bell Services or Luggage Assistance. Alternatively, these deliveries may be picked up in the Resort Lobby from Bell Services or Luggage Assistance at no charge.

I cannot find anything on the website stating they have stopped transferring groceries

Definitely agree this service was available - the claim from the poster on Facebook was that starting today (7/24/21) they stopped for resort to resort transfers for refrigerated goods.

You (or a delivery service like Amazon Fresh) should still be able to drop off refrigerated goods at bell services and have them hold them - according to the post, you just cannot have bell services transfer them from 1 resort to the other.

Totally possible that this was a fake post on the Facebook group, or some kind of misunderstanding by the guest - or perhaps specific to a certain resort (lets say for example OKW due to the refurb going on in their lobby for example).

Guess we'll find out more over the next few days if anyone staying is able or unable to transfer their refrigerated goods between resorts using bell services :)

@DebbieB definitely agree on the high summer temps, but they have been doing this in previous years through hot summers, so I have to assume they have a way to handle it? I suspect if they did really stop - it is probably because of issues they have had dealing with refrigerated foods like people's food leaking or complaints, but maybe you're right and one of the complaints is people's food has been spoiling?

Okay, so let me pose this question.

I have a split stay between Pop and Yacht Club. I’d really rather not have to take an Uber XL to switch resorts. Having Disney transfer the bulk of my luggage would be optimal. However, we would be going from Pop to Yacht Club via the Skyliner.

My question is would they even allow us on the Skyliner if we had bags with us? I’m not talking about luggage. More like tote bags with bottled water and groceries. I can’t imagine we’ll even have that much. I could always make two smaller Instacart orders at the start of each leg of the trip.

If you can pack your water and groceries into backpacks that are a reasonable size for someone to take into a park, they probably wouldn't say anything. I'm not sure what they'd say if you were carrying multiple grocery sacks. When boarding the Skyliner, there certainly isn't time to load multiple items or hand them from one person to another - you pretty much have to just get on with whatever you're carrying.

Will you have a stroller? If you can fit it all into a standard width stroller you could just roll it all onto the skyliner.

If not, I think if it is something you can hand carry relatively easily it shouldn't be a problem to bring it onto the skyliner.

I would definitely ask bell services first - since this is at this point 100% a rumor and unconfirmed that they will not move refrigerated goods.

Worst case you could potentially make multiple skyliner trips using backpacks. But I'll bet if you could fit everything into backpacks for each person and 1 large Disney shopping bag each - nobody would even bat an eye.

Yeah, I would probably have one, maybe two tote bags, perhaps a backpack as well. My concern is verbiage I saw that stated they would only transport luggage. I suppose we could lightly pack an extra suitcase and pack whatever groceries we have left from the first portion in it.

Yet another small wrinkle to plan for and think about.

Multiple people posted on the DVC Fan FB group confirming they were no longer able to transport refrigerated goods using bell services. I wish they would more broadly announce this because it will definitely surprise a lot of people who have done this for years.

So it's just cold food? They will still move half a case of water, boxes of cereal and bags of snacks?

The change is probably an outcome of the high number of split stays taking place this year as so many people are vying for finite availability of DVC and the slow roll of opening hotel capacity.

So if you don't care if it is refrigerated or not - say my beer and sodas - and they were just in a box, should still be fine.

We had our backpacks, roller carry-on bags and bags with our milk, orange juice, etc from our refrigerator when we boarded the skyliner from the Riviera to the Boardwalk during a split stay - had no issues at all. You should be fine transferring with luggage via the skyliner from Pop to Yacht Club.
