Confirmed reservations, a good deal?

Are the confirmed DVC reservations with the sponsor of this board really that great of a deal? I can't see that much of a savings, but maybe I'm overlooking pricing?

They aren't usually a good deal for the end renter.

For the one renting the reservation:

It is usually a bit easier as there is no checking for availability of the room, confirming etc, but it usually costs more per point, unless someone is just renting out a confirmed reservation to make sure they don't have any points expire. These will usually be for just a night or two and may be a good deal.

Most confirmed reservations are being booked by members hoping that it will rent for MORE per point than points usually rent for that resort. These will usually be longer reservations and not as good of a deal

It all depends on what the cash rate is for that specific room cash.,,or, if not available cash, a better deal for what is available to book.

For example, maybe DVC rental ends up $300 a night which is close to a moderate resort, but the renter is getting deluxe.

It will vary based on resort, time of year and length of stay. To compare you can just go to the Disney website and see what it would cost with all applicable current discounts. It's normally always cheaper renting, but it does come with different terms than with Disney direct so with the savings comes some risks that wont you have with Disney direct.

Oh yeah I guess it depends what you are comparing it to

renting confirmed reservations vs having a member check availability and book (the normal rental process)
or
renting confirmed reservations vs paying cash with Disney

I wonder if they reduce thier pricing the closer it comes to the dates of the reservations?

They will do email campaigns if there are a lot of confirmed reservations available and I have seen them lower their prices (from the marketing I have received). As I mentioned on another thread, the board sponsor charges $28 per point for rentals at the 11 month mark. I believe David's is close to this price, too. Even at $28 per point, at the Poly, it is about half of the cash rate.

Everytime I have looked, it is a great deal for them not you.
There don’t tend to tell you what they are charging per point because they don’t want tou to realize that you are being ripped off (in most cases)
There are several public calanders that you can figure out the point per night they are charging.

If you are looking to book a reservation a distance out, I would go over to the rent/trade boards and book your room for between $18 to $20 per point on average.

Sometimes they may drop the price

But again it depends what the owners' intention is.

If it's to avoid expiring points they may lower the price

If it was just to get as much money as possible, they will cancel the reservation and secure another reservation to rent or bank their points

Definitely cheaper to rent from people here. Only plus side to the rental sites (board sponsor) is they do not make you pay all up front and they do offer a credit if you cancel. They have a new feature where you can purchase insurance (not very expensive) and if you do cancel, you can be refunded.

If you own DVC it’s not a good deal but if you don’t it can still be much better than a cash rate. The owner wants to make up the price per point they pay, the broker has to pay its employees and turn a profit also.
