I feel so guilty. My in-laws bought 425 points in the nineties when their kids were young. Since they have grown up they only occasionally use their points. My DH and I love using the points, and since they don't use them they are generous with them. All they ask is that we "manage" the account. Which basically means they want us to log on to the website and bank their points for them.

I forgot to do it! They had 70 points to bank, and I forgot to bank them. Now they are gone, and I feel awful! There is nothing to do about it now, I just feel sick that the points are being wasted.

I have heard many tell the story on here of a once in a lifetime forgiveness call to MS and them doing it after the fact. For 70 points, this may or may not be worth using your one get out of jail free card. :confused3

Your inlaws would, of course, have to make the call since it's in their name(s).

So, pay them $700 for forgetting? Or, you could use the current RCI rental rate of $490.:flower3:

To avoid forgetting in the future: Do you keep a birthday card list, or something similar. List Bank DVC points there.

You can create a calendar item on your computer to remind you every year to bank points. I have that on my calendar as a backstop just in case I forget.

Couldn't you try to rent or transfer? Maybe someone wants them.

We did this about 6 years ago and they did accommodate us to bank points we forgot to bank. Haven't had the need to test the 1X stipulation.

I would call because they are good about LIFESAVING DVC SCREWUPS. We had one last summer with a cash ressie.

We have always used up our current year points and then also borrowed from next use year, so we have never ever had them expire. I think the DVC members website should post an email when your points are almost up. It would be a nice gesture, right? Also, if you think they are about to expire, try renting them out. THere are a lot of people out there that are more than willing to pay cash for points.

It doesn't hurt to place the call to MS, the worse that can happen is that they no, nothing can be done. Then if the answer is no, I would have to confess it to my In-Laws, guilt eats me up to the point that I can't sleep! Try not to beat yourself up too much, you made a mistake, in the end since you are the only ones to use the points, you'll have less to work with! Maybe you can offer to pay towards some of the maintenance, to make yourselft feel better!
