Did your previous payments get returned?

He really doesn’t have any obligation other than to return all the money you’ve paid him. If he has done that, you can move on. This could happen to anyone at any type of property, hotel, condo, house rental, or timeshare. It sounds like it was out of his control, and there is no proof he wasn’t going to notify you. He may have been working through a list of renters in chronological order and it simply wasn’t your turn yet. I wouldn’t let it put you off renting completely, but it might be a good idea in the near future to book a backup hotel with a generous cancellation policy so you have some peace of mind. As more and more timeshare companies crack down on commercial rentals this could happen often until it gets back to occasional owner rentals only.

I am sorry this happened to you and I hope you are able to find another accommodation quickly. :grouphug:

Is there anything in the contract regarding cancellation? I’d guess there’s nothing beyond giving you back your money, because that’s how most of these personal rental contracts are written. Some have clauses where they’ll find you similar accommodation and any price difference if needed, though that is not common outside larger rental companies. Are you locked into those specific dates? There’s still time to find something else. Good luck!

So he returned your money.
Honestly sounds like he took care of what he owes you.
Better to find out now than last minute.
Move on and find a new place to stay.

It seems like Bonnet Creek is cracking down on all commercial rentals, not just certain weeks, The 2 company’s that I have rented through are no longer renting out anymore. Bonnet Creek wants you to book through Extra Holidays since it’s almost double the price as renting through an owner.

Right now, there are 57 Bonnet Creek rentals on Redweek and 182 rentals on eBay.

Companies come and go in the timeshare renting game and there are also hundreds of individual owners renting. There are also companies that manage the rentals for owners.

Just move on to someone new to get your rental.

I get what you’re saying. Chances are finding a similar rental through someone else will probably work out. Unlikely to have the same thing happen twice. But after going through it once, it would be hard to ignore the possibility of a repeat.

I’m a Bonnet Creek owner. The system is working as intended. Wyndham is not designed for people to be commercially renting like this. It impacts availability for owners. If you want to stay at Bonnet Creek, either rent from Wyndham (extra holidays), or buy there.

I’m also a DVC owner. It would be great if DVC copied Wyndham here.
