Julez4u,

Thanks for posting this question! I was wondering too about what concierge meant! We're staying at the Poly in Oct too and I understand that they have this service at this resort so I'm doubly curious.

Thanks again! I'll be watching this thread for replies for sure!

We stayed in the Poly Concierage in November. What you get is a little better service along with some additional amenities. What this included at the Poly was:
* turndown service every night with mints on the pillows
* lounge containing free food and beverages throughout the day -- this was a great perk
* check-in desk located within the building so no waiting in line to check in
* help with making all priority seating arrangements as well as miscellaneous other reservations (Pirate Cruise, etc.)
* gifts for my kids upon check-in which included a sand pail, goodies and some coloring activies. I am told that this is not the norm.

Basically you get the feeling of being totally pampered by a great friendly staff! We loved it so much that we can't imagine going any other way. We will be trekking back to enjoy it once again in November.

I am a former WDW concierge and the site given above is a good explanation.

A Disney concierge kind of serves a your personal assistant. We start weeks before you arrive, contacting guest, taking care of reservations, tickets, special occassions etc. The cms on the concierge levels are restricted to those who are staying in concierge rooms and they go the extra mile to make your stay special. They are very knowledgeable not just on Disney but the surrounding area. They required us to know a specific number of guest names on sight.

To me the best part of staying on the Concierge level is the constant snack bars starting with continental breakfast, tea, cocktails and afternoon/evening snacks. We also had special parties for our guest for events like the superbowl and halloween to name a few.

Hi I have a question???? How and when do you tip a con.
We are going to The Poly in June and it is the first time for Con.

Disney concierges are restricted as to how much of a gift we can accept. At GF we pooled our tips and then used it for a fun activity that we could do together. I often was given flowers or small gifts. Exepensive gifts I could not accept. But tips of any amount as long as they went into the pool were ok.

You want to tip the concierge who is extra helpful. Greats you by name, somehow finds the hard to get reservation or patiently makes your reservations or assist you with plans.

A concierge tipping guide is $5-10 for help with hard-to-get dinner reservations or theater tickets. Tipping is optional for just plain advice. Tipping can be done at the end of the trip or at the time of service, just keep is straight so that you are fair.

For me the best reward was a return guest who would call or email before their next visit and ask specifically for me or a note to the GM on the wonderful service I gave. I loved returning families especially when I know their likes and dislikes.
