I read that concierge guests can board after anyone in a wheelchair, etc. My parents are traveling with us, but not in cat 1-3---would they be able to just board with us? Also, I read you can book Palos now-we are going Aug 2-how do you do that? Do I just call DCL? thanks for the help. Anything else I should know about concierge? Beth

Yes, Beth, your parents will be able to board with you. As far as making reservations for Palo I've read that you receive in your documentation package a letter with a phone number to call. However, I've sailed twice (both times in Cat. 2) and have never received such a letter. However, since you're practically the first to board getting Palo reservations should not be a problem.

On thing about concierge -- yes, they can make reservations; however, they are only given certain time slots which may not correspond with what you have in mind. We found it easier to make our own reservations. HTH

Beth--you should have gotten a letter. Mine went to my TA and she forwarded it to me.

I called in advance and booked Palo as well as shore excursions.

Your parents should be able to preboard with you.

We never got a letter 2 yrs ago when we had a suite and so far no letter-we are cruising in 40 days. Is it too early for the letter? does anyone have a phone number? thanks so much.

Beth--I have it at work, will PM you with it tomorrow.

Anne

Does the phone number also allow you to book spa ressies and Flounder's Reef? I am in charge of our group and we will be in a Cat 2. Just trying to plan ahead.
Thanks
Suzy :)

Okay, just to reask and clarify one of Beth's questions. Next March we are in a Cat 3 and both sets of parents are in a Cat 6. I was concerned that they would not be able to board early with us. Several of you have said they could board with us. Have you done this? Do we just keep them with us and let the CMs know that they are with our party? Thanks for all your help.

<<Do we just keep them with us and let the CMs know that they are with our party?>>

only if they behave themselves....if they don't, they are on their own....and if they ask why, tell them "because I said so!"--its payback time....LOL....only kidding...sailed with my mom in a cat 6, we were cat 3, she got concierge service as well......

LOL lemstar:)

So, your mother also got concierge service? Does this mean she could make spa reservations through concierge, and did they bring things to her cabin? Was your reservation linked, and one last thing, did she check in with you at the concierge desk or did she check in at a regular desk? Thanks!

I will have to send both sets of parents your post and tell them this is the way it is or we will act like we don't know them. Since we are paying for their cruise, I have already told them there will be no complaining.:p

yes, my mom was able to book reservations thru concierge, and i am not sure if they brought her treats--i think they did--we checked in at the regular desk as we didnt know there was a concierge check in. i dont know if this was routine, but she did have concierge....
why not make your parents eat some liver?

Jayne, did they give your mother concierge service because she was traveling with you, or just the courtesy to book her res.

Anne, Did the letter come separate from the documents? Our documents for Aug 2 came today, but no letter. We booked through DU. Should I see if it went there or do I just need the number someone sent me?

Maybe I can get the concierge staff to sit on a chair by the pool and save it for me-from the chair hogging posts I'm worried we might have to stand the whole cruise.

Thanks everyone Beth

i dont know why they gave her concierge service...i did tell them at check-in that she was with us, and she was alone (and my dad had died 3 wks earlier)....
jayne

Maybe they did it out of respect because of the situation.I hope she was able to enjoy the cruise. I'm sure it must have been difficult for her, but in circumstances like that keeping busy is often helpful. I'm sorry to hear about your loss. How did you like the cat3? Did you find the service to be what you expected? Beth

beth--
we loved the cat 3--with one exception--we were travelling with our 16 yr old and 5 yr old at the time--we had been assured over and over that there was a pull down bed in the living area--turned out that the pull down bed was in the "master" bedrm--so much for privacy--that is the main reason we got a cat 3!
the service was ok, not exceptional--we were not able to book spa reservations we wanted--there were one left--finally got it, then surial bath wasnt "working" for some reason when our turn came--
it was also strange for us all cuz my dad had just died a miserable death, and my son was 16 (ugh), and it was just not the best--then my 5 yr old got sick in st martin, so i stayed on board with a sick kid in st thomas....
good luck!

I believe the Cat. 3's that have the pull-down bed in the living area are 8032, 8034, 8532 and 8534.

This is the case. These rooms re also considerably larger with a triple wide verandah.

We had my wife's family reunion onboard the Wonder July 2002. Of the four families we were the only ones to go Cat 3, the rest went Cat 4. Check in was great although they would only take us to the front of the line, the rest of the family had to wait on line. Upon boarding, around 1 PM, they said our rooms weren't ready and we proceeded to the concierge check in. We were the first ones there and the hosts supplied beverages and fresh chocolate chip cookies for the kids. We made Palo reservations for the 8 adults for the day and time we wanted. We skipped the spa. For the four days on board every little goody that was given to us in the Cat 3 room, they gave to the other rooms, nice touch and completely unexpected.:D Just an aside the Palo dinner was fantastic. The waiting for our stateroom was somewhat unexpected and so next time I might check more luggage. I was carrying the video camera and the laptop, etc.
