Concierge Level?

Could someone help me with the concierge level? I read where people just love to use their points for this and I was wondering what the difference is in the rooms, service, etc. I think I have read where you can do the Sunrise Safari if you are staying at AKV, but do you get other perks that make it worth the extra points? DH and I just bought a 110 add-on at AKV and he would really like to do the safari sometime. Could someone help me out here?

I'll help out a little, but first the disclaimer: my first concierge trip won't be until May.

OK, some of the advantages of AKV Concierge are:
1) Allows you to book Sunrise Safari
2) Daily mousekeeping
3) Use of concierge lounge which gives you a continental breakfast in the morning, snacks in the afternoon(? - not exactly sure on this one) and desserts, beer & wine in the evenings

Thanks Donald. I thought daily Mousekeeping was one of the perks, but I hadn't really heard the rest. I wish they posted those things somewhere. Does anyone know if you can find this on a website somewhere?

We've stayed in the club level at AKL once but before the conversion of the 6th floor to villas.

Besides the things Donald mentioned, the concierge CMs will help you with planning. They will make dining and recreation reservations for you if you ask. They help with any glitches while you're there. You may have to contact them yourselves to get that rolling. They are the folks who will book the Sunrise and/or Sunset Safari for you which you want to reserve as early as possible. The Sunset Safari takes place on the savannahs of AKL and is followed by a dinner at Jiko.

To answer Donald's question, there are snacks in the lounge in the afternoon, tea mid afternoon and appetizers are served from 5-7pm. Coffee, tea, ice tea and soda pop is available throughout the day.

For me, personally, I can't spend the points for it. I wouldn't want daily mousekeeping, and I have all the snacks and beverages I need in my room. Maybe, if I had more points I might splurge.

The newspapers are not delivered to your room - they're just available in the concierge lounge. Or, if you're not staying concierge you can buy them at the shop for what - $.75??

The rooms on concierge are the same as the rooms on the 5th floor, except there are a couple of bathrobes in the closet. You check in at the lounge, rather than the front desk. You can have the staff there make dining or other reservations, but personally I'd rather do that myself well in advance. The lounge has a nice continental breakfast, snacks throughout the day (not lunch...more like cookies & stuff), a soup & 2 hors'doeuvrs/appetizers from 5-7 and desserts from 8-10. Beer & wine is available 5-7 and cordials 8-10. I enjoyed sitting in the lounge eating, drinking, and chatting with my son & his girlfriend. I wouldn't bother with concierge if I was going to be in the parks most of the day or out at dinner each night because then I wouldn't be using the lounge!

There's no way to guarantee savannah view - 3 out of 5 has it, 2 out of 5 does not....it's a crapshoot what you'll get. Concierge guests can book the Sunrise Safari for $55/person on Sunday & Thursday mornings. They can also book the Sunset Safari for $160/person - not sure if that's every day or just some days.

Thanks everyone for helping out with the concierge level amenities. I think my DH and I would enjoy this level if we went by ourselves. When we go with our DGC, we spend a lot of time in the parks and it probably wouldn't be worth the extra points. I will keep this in mind for an adults only trip.

Oh, good to know. At least the lounge is close to the DVC villas. Of course, no reaching out the door in your jammies to snag the paper like at other resorts.

And yes, .75 plus tax on weekdays for the papers we buy in WDW.

Park admission is required. It's collected in the concierge lounge before the tour departs. But that does make sense as when the tour is finished, you'll be inside AK and free to enjoy the park.
