Hi-

We are booked on the 12/9/06 special itinerary Magic. We have a booked a category 3 to celebrate dh's 40th birthday. Can anyone tell me what to expect as far as concierge service. I know there is a seperate waiting area in the terminal, and that reservations for Palo, etc, can be booked 105 days out. But what else? Will the concierge team contact you prior to cruising ( as they do at the WDW resorts)? Are the bathroom amenities different? Is there anything else done differently?

Thanks-
Erin :)

Separate waiting area and check in line. Board right after handicapped if you are there that early. Concierge meeting the first day where they will take care of any ressies you didn't make in advance. On line ressies at 105 days (they hold some back, so if you don't make on line, they will do it for you). Daily "concierge gift" in your room--cookies, chocolate dipped strawberries, etc. They will call and check on you daily--can they do anything. Starter water or cokes in room (cat 3 you will pay beyond the initial load). An arcade card for kids.

You can order food from the regular restaurants to be served as room service.

You also have full breakfast options all mornings, and on the last morning you CAN order room service continental, which really saved us a lot of time and made disembarking more efficient and simple. At the concierge meet when you embark you can do one-stop sign-up for all of the "extra" events - bridge tour, galley tour, wine tasting, etc. The concierge will type up a full itinerary based on all of your excursions and events you've signed up for and will deliver it to your room with your tickets for those events. We had a few snafus with people missing an event or something like that and the concierge helped us out with exchanging tickets very easily. Our experience was great and we're totally spoiled by the whole thing - the extra room, the service, you-name-it.

After four DCL cruises, all with concierge, we have found that the amount of attention often depends on the concierge team. Some of them are totally great, others you may hardly ever see.
We were told once when we were in a Cat 2 that we couldn't have any more free sodas in the room, after we had finished the ones that were left there initially. Another time in a Cat 3, we were able to get more. We also discovered that if you are in the Walt or the Roy, the concierge service is much more attentive than in a Cat 3....and the Cat 2 falls somewhere in between.
We've never been contacted by concierge in advance of a cruise.

There is a difference in the type of shampoo, etc....but all of it is a little harsh on the hair and skin, in my opinion.

We did discover that if you are in a port where you have to tender to shore, concierge will help you get on a tender any time in the morning that you want to, rather than have to get a "ticket" and get in line. That was a big plus.

Thank you all for the information. I am really looking forward to the extra pampering! Our youngest will only be 18months at the time of the cruise so we plan to spend more time than usual in the cabin. I am gld to have the extra space!

Thanks again!
Erin :)

We had a Cat. 3 in Septembe 2004. The concierge service was excellent. We did not know to book things like Palo ahead of time and they got us everything we wanted at the first day meeting. They gave the kids a beautiful Disney print with a Animator's Palate theme for a disembarking gift that we had framed and put in our playroom. A very positive experience all around.

You will LOVE it with an 18-month old! Having that extra space and a room with doors to close during naptime was awesome. Whoever pulls "babysitting" duty during naps can relax in the living room watching TV without being afraid of making noise - and having a full bathroom with a shower in the living room was a help for getting people cleaned up from the pool if naps were still going on. Enjoy!
