Hello, Has anyone ever stayed at the AKL, concierge level ? If so, tell me about it, good and bad !!! :flower3:

We've stayed there enough times to wish that we could stay there all of the time!!

The good part is it's wonderful!

The bad part is having to go back home and paying for it.

They'll do as much for you as you'll let them. Everything from PSs to lending my DH a belt when he forgot his. Our dinner was at V & A, and he had put his belt out to be put in the luggage- and it never made it in.

Have a great time, and think about the Sunrise and Wanyama Safaris. They're only available to Concierge Guests.

can you please advise as to the perks with concierge? i'm aware of the planning, as i'm using them for that now. we have our first nite in concierge followed by 5 in savannah room. it's rather steep to do all six in concierge, but may be able to be convinced!!

what is the food? is it available all day- breakfast, lunch? or is it just snack type stuff?
anything else i should know about the advantages of concierge?
thanks!

Okay... where to begin. I just found my Concierge Package:

From 6.30 to 7 will be MACHEO (Sunrise Offerings): coffee and assorted juices... if the Goddess is working- you'll fall in love. the Goddess is my nickname for DHs favorite item in the Concierge Lounge.... The Espresso/Latte/Cappuccino machine. The bad news is that (for us) it usually will malfunction once per trip due to overuse. The sublime news it that it makes wonderful coffees. They also have Carafes of regular coffee and a plethora of teas (bags/for hot).

From 7 to 10:30 is MIAMKO (Adventurous Awakenings)Breakfast- which includes cold cereals, bagels, pastries, fruit, milk, juice, etc.

VITAFUNIO (Safari Snacks) go out at 11.30 - 3; A selection of African snacks and beverages.

CHAI (Afternoon Tea) 3 - 4.30; imported loose leaf teas, assorted freshly baked scones, cookies and biscuits. Butter, jam, marmalade.

KISIKUSIKU (Twilight Offerings) 5 - 7; Wines, hors d'oeuvres, and African specialty appetizers from Jiko and Boma (the sit down restaurants downstairs). These are really good (IMHO)! It can be anything from shrimp to pork skewers, chicken skewers, riblets, meatballs, salmon skewers, chicken tenders for the kids, wraps, cous cous, a really good selection!

REHEMA (Evening Indulgences) 8 - 10; Mini desserts, cookies, truffles, cordials, Baileys, Kahlua, cognac, African fruity cordial, (DH does a Baileys Latte).

The staff is OUTSTANDING, and more than happy to help you in any way that they can. We usually bring them a little something for them to nibble on in the kitchen- they really enjoy that.

We really enjoy the Safari Experiences. The Sunrise Safari is only open to Concierge guests. We've done it 3 times!

If I can help in any way, let me know.....

flower- thanks so much for the info!

so, it looks like this could be breakfast (we're mostly cereal, bagel types anyway) but the others more snack-like? would you agree or can you get enough for a full lunch? i'm being cheap i know! trying to rationalize the extra $$ by saving on meals!! :teeth:

a few other questions:
what are the other advantages of concierge at AKL?
which floor/ location is best?
what are the chances of getting an upgrade for nothing or cheap??? as i stated previously, we have our first nite in concierge, then 5 in savannah. we stayed savannah in 01 and loved it- it's our first time back since then.
did you do the sunrise safari?
how about the other resort activities?
thanks again!

How do you reserve the Sunrise Safari? That sounds like a great experience.

Thanks! I didn't realize the days were changing. Thanks for letting me know.

The breakfast offering would definitely set you up for the day. The rest is kind of snacky- also remember that you'll be doing parks (I assume) during the day. Do you really want to run back to the hotel for the next offering?

I've gotton enough out of the evening offering to call it dinner- without being piggy- but I don't eat a ton of food, either.

As discounts on rooms are getting fewer, and as Concierge gets more popular- I wouldn't count on a free upgrade. If you were doing a Deluxe Savannah room, it might be offered for maybe an additional $100 or so per night. I'm not positive about the prices or availabilities though. It fills up really fast.

The Itinerary folks have booked Spa treatments, off property restaurants and the like for us. And although most feel that the 6th floor is too far away from things- DH loves staying on the concierge floor.

HTH!!

thanks again flower-

our plan is to get an early start then head back to the resort around lunch to relax, before heading out again later in the afternoon- that's how we did it last time. not sure my kids can handle a full day without some down time. plus it's a great resort and i want to take advantages of some of the activites there, which i think they'll enjoy

i've read some getting updgraded for only a few bucks== $40 or so i nite-- i can do that! ;)

did you do the sunrise safari?

We did the sunrise safari in Dec. It was great. I would do it again. You get alot of information about the park from the curators who give the tours. If you like to take pictures it is a great time to get some pictures. The breakfast was very good also.
I loved the concierge service. They arranged alot of our dining and other things we wanted to do. The lounge was nice to set in for awhile. For us it was worth the extra money for the service we recieved.
