We live in a very safe, quiet neighborhood. Almost every night for the last three weeks, a police car (or two or three) has been parked outside my neighbor's home, across the street and two doors down.
A few times they've had lights flashing.
The first time it happened I thought nothing of it, as the house is for sale and I thought perhaps a police officer might be interested in buying it, but with all the activity there I can't help but wonder what's going on.
I have only met the people who live there once while the husband (or older male who lives there) was walking the dog, and that was in October. My DH has never met them. As far as I know, the home is currently vacant due to mold issues and the interior of the home is being re-done, which leads me to suspect all kinds of activity in the home while it is absent of residents. We have had recent break-in problems with cars and homes. Since October, I haven't seen anyone familiar in or around the area.
I guess I don't know what to do. Obviously I'm concerned at the amount of police activity there, and since I am a young woman with a young child and the the two of us are alone a lot, I am worried.
Is it within my rights to call the police station and ask what the activity is about? I assume if it's confidential they would tell me so, and I would mind my own business. I have checked the police blotter and found nothing.
