Hi guy! I have a bunch of questions that i would love if you could answer. I have a computer that has Windows 95 installed on it. I want to upgrade it to a windows xp or something just as new/good. But Windows xp is REALLY expensive (well, its expensive for me). Any advice? Any stores you know of that sell it for less? Please help!

I've had W95, W98 & XP.

I miss W98!!!!

If I were in your shoes, I'd buy a used copy of W98 instead.

But that's just me. I don't care for the loss of my "msconfig", which they took out with XP (and had in W98). But I'm weird that way.

Ok, in a lot of ways...

Are you sure that your CPU can handle an upgrade to Win XP??

You might not have enough memory or the right processor to run XP.

Are you a student, or is someone in your family? The academic discount is pretty steep -- it is with most software.

I still have msconfig, Cheryl, and use it every so often.

XP is great, if, as said, your system can handle it. And remember, minimum requirements are just that, minimum. Ideal is always more, making it operate better.

Why, ah must be losin' mah mind!

I know that msconfig disappeared for a while, but you're right, Dan, it's BACK!

Ok, I need a new career - FAST.

Must've lost msconfig in W98, and they snuck it back into XP.

That's what I'm gonna tell myself, and don't you DARE tell me otherwise, or I'll be convinced I've lost it entirely.

Thanks, Dan!

Windows 2000, NT :teeth:

Whew! I have only partially lost it.

Msconfig disappeared in W2K....dang, I forgot all about W2K, I've had so many O/S changes....

Thanks again, Dan.

And I'm gonna go update my monster.com profile now to reflect that I'm no longer a computer geek, just a moron. LOL

Don't go by what Microsoft lists as "minimums" unless you are looking to die of boredom. They sell software not hardware and they severely underestimate.. I wouldn't run XP on any less than then a P-III or celeron 5 or 600 with 128 megs of ram and more would be better. If your computer is less than that Pebblez is right... 98 would be way better.
