We have a 98' Gateway. I posted a thread earlier about how it is about to die. We got alot of great advice on that thread. I do have another ? though before we jump into buing a new computer. Does anyone here know how to run a system restoration disk? We have put both of the disks we have in, but it isn't restoring anything. I think we may have a virus. Any help would be truly appreciated. THank you in advance for all your wonderful help.

Well, if you have come to that point, where you want to do a total restore (putting your PC back to the way it was when you plugged it in for the first time), when you insert the disc, it should start by itself and give you instructions, and warnings that you are about to erase anything you have put on it and put it back to day one. If it does not, go to your Windows Explorer, find the DC drive (probably D) and look for a file to run, probably 'setup.exe'.

Have you tried all the various virus scans?

I'm not sure about the virus scan. My DH is going to try what you just sent. THank you so much Dan. You are the best. If this works we will save soooo much money. THANK YOU DAN!!!!! I'l post an update on whether this worked or not. THANK YOU>

Just remember, if you do that restore, it will erase anything you have added since you got it. Not that that in itself is bad. Your machine will run well after that.
