Ok so my computer is starting to run a little slower than usual....and I know we have a lot of people out there who are really good with computers. So what do you guys do when your computer is running slow?
Like right now I'm defragmenting the drive...and doing a virus scan, but maybe some other people out there have some suggestions?
It's not an old computer either...maybe 3 years?
Thanks guys!

Turn it off
wait 10 minutes
Turn it back on

Thanks Mouse. I think that this happens to me because I try to do like 900 things at one time, so my computer gets on overload...or maybe it's starting to get old or something. Hopefully the stuff I'm doing will bring it back to life a little bit.

Anyone else have any suggestions?

Do you have too many programs installed into your computer? That can be a problem too.

My PC's going slow too. It's not really old, and there's definitely not a lot of crap on here because I deleted a lot of it.
I don't know how long it's been since it was last defragmented.

3 years isn't old.
If it's using XP, it's not old.

I beg to differ

oh it's old because it's not the newest thing on the market?
it's old because it's going slow?
it's old because someone doesn't replace their pc every year?

my computer is possibly older than three years, works like a charm (yes it's slowed down, but I'm sure there's a small reason behind that) and it certainly does not look it.

i don't consider a computer old until the operating system is at least two versions behind (meaning windows 2000 would be old) and it works like a piece of crap (meaning our school computers that someone tried to shove windows XP on, when the computer could hardly handle it).
besides, vista may look good, but it's first generation.

reasonably the age of the computer shouldnt affect how it preforms but hey it gets hot in there. i suggest a regestry. that should help. be careful there are alot of bogus regestry cleaners out there. ill find a reputable one and post the link here for u

Spyware is another thing that could slow down your computer...

My computer is almost only a year old and it's a laptop and it's always slow.
But I love it. =)

If it starts gettting slow I go through everything and delete everything that I don't need. [Pictures, documents, so on.]
And I have this CD that takes all the unused programs and puts it in one folder which makes the computer go faster.
Most of the time it works.
But when it doesn't I just yell at the computer and tell it to hurry up. [I suggest not doing this as it does not help. It makes it go slower.]

you most likely have too many programs installed .. keep in mind that a lot of times, when you install one program, it might trick you and install multiple things if your not careful.. spyware definitely slows down your pc a lot.. i recommend spybot and adware (at the same time) to clean this out.. if not, there may be a virus or a trojan... if its severe enough, the only way to make it fast again is to reformat the whole thing (wipes out the entire harddrive) with your recovery disks... and 3 years is old.. but not too old lol

Thanks guys!
Yeah it's not an old computer. It's running xp and it's a dell flatscreen.
I'm going to try all this stuff.
It's already running faster!
Thanks again!
