DH brings work with him on our WDW vacations.
Thinkpads in a travel case work fine on airplanes.
We have brought DH's thinkpad before.

Now he wants to bring his mobile printer - HP 460C.
It weighs less than 5 lbs, 13.5" wide, 3.2" high and 6.5" deep.

How should we pack it to carry on the airplane ?
Do airplanes allow printers as carry ons ?

Thanks !

Yep, printers are allowed as a carry on item. I would suggest putting it somewhere easy to access as TSA will most likely want to take a closer look....

I wonder if the ink cartidges in a mobile printer are big enough to violate the liquids limits? Probably not, but the TSA people might give you grief over it anyway.

Yes, technically, since it is a liquid, ink jet cartridges would have to be separated out into the one one-quart zip-top bag.

Have you seen anyone doing this? I haven't...

(And using this logic WHY don't we have to put ink pens in the magic baggie... My inkpen has more "liquid" then my "deadly mascara" :rotfl: LOGIC TSA STYLE)

Dumb as I think some of TSAs logic is, I try not to be too hard on them. They have to find a balance between those who are so paranoid about terrorist attacks that they have to take Xanax just to get on a plane, and the millions of travellers who simply want to bring a bottle of water on the plane with them.

Good point, and just think how many complaints there would be if the rules were so complex as to be "logical" in everyone's mind: When working with the general public, rules need to be generalized and simple. That often results in casting a wider net than strictly necessary. That's one reason so many DISers object so strongly to folks exploiting loopholes in Disney's rules: It prompts Disney to make rules that cast a wider net, thereby adversely affecting guests who actually weren't abusing anything.

Whatever you do, don't put it in a checked bag! Carry on should be fine. If the ink cartridges come out easy, go ahead and put them in your quart baggie. But if they don't, it is unlikely TSA will say anything about it.
