My mouse on my computer died. Seemingly. I have two of them, both plug into a USB port. Neither one works. I have a frozen cursor. (Curses!! pirate: )

I'm not sure if my keyboard works or not. My computer is frozen (Windows XP) on the sign-in screen. I can't move the cursor, and if I hit the tab button or the windows button on the keyboard, nothing moves.

I'm wondering if it could be that my USB ports died. It's just strange. It worked the other night, and a couple of hours later it's frozen. I've rebooted, but nothing.

I do happen to have a few more days left on my Dell 3-yr warranty. But I wrote down the wrong numbers from my computer, so I can't get into their tech help.

Any ideas??

You have a PS2 port in the back of the computer and a mouse that has a PS2 plug? You could try that out to see if a mouse will work. Then go ahead and try something else in the USB port(s) to see if that works.

I'm assuming you've done a reboot too?

Yep, I've re-booted a few times. I have a PS2 mouse I'm borrowing from work. I'm hoping that's it, but I'm trying to think of other things to try in case. I'll be computer-less for 4 days once I leave the office. (I've been thinking about buying a laptop, Maybe now's the time!)

About two months ago, I removed that anti-spyware program that is actually a virus. I hope it's not a timed delay.
