Compromise is a Disney word: Taking one for the team over Thanksgiving 2016* August PTR link! 5/28

Ahhhh love your update! Boys and their attitudes tho.... pfft.

I've never even heard of- let alone seen these African Acrobats you speak of... adding this to my list for the next trip!

And the t shirt saga.... I'm hoping DH doesn't mind bc I'm buying the red "hakuna matata" shirt for him for Valentine's Day and getting myself one too !

Can't wait to hear about your time at DS

Chris wasn't the only one who didn't remember ITTBAB, I barely remembered any of it. It's still not something I need to do often but I liked it and I'm glad we did it together. Everyone walked out STILL in a positive mood!
Hey! The magic of food and climate controlled environments. Glad everyone was in a good mood... for a minute... :duck:

It was ok; I had something else in mind for entertainment called "street parti". I'd been wanting to see it since it began and now I can say I have. I loved the music; I really like all the African music played around the park and by the bands, etc. And the woman in the red shirt and orange sneakers was a great dancer, very energetic. She kept trying to get more people to come up and dance with her but the crowd wasn't that big to begin with.
Yeah I think this is another thing that's better in the full dark. Plus when I saw it there were more dancers and stilt people - hopefully that's not a permanent cutback, just fewer scheduled during the day?

I can't for the life of me find out what they're called, so I call them the acrobats in Africa in AK
I think they are called (fittingly) the Harambe Village Acrobats!

I had a secret conversation with Ricky as we walked off the safari and then announced to everyone that regardless of where they went, Ricky and I were going to our reservation at Y&Y.

Surreptitious. I love it!

Glad you all ended up having a successful if not 100% happy every minute of the day type day. Any day at Animal Kingdom is better than a day in Atlanta!

Alright so it seems we have improvement in this portion of your AK day, though still a tad contentious!

You got to ride EE quite a bit! I need to borrow Ricky on my June trip so I'll have a ride buddy. Will is my best shot and I don't think he's more than 37" at this point!

Glad you were able to get dinner at Y&Y even though it isn't my favorite...lol.

Hopefully we will get to catch the African acrobats but who knows how crazy AK will be that first week of June if the Pandora rumors pan out.

Oh and it truly will be hilarious if tons of others are wearing the same Hakuna Matata shirt as DH. Though I wonder if the fever will have died down by June!

Ok, Ye-Tea is pretty good, but I agree, no 'It's Smee!" And we have never caught the African Acrobats in AK, but I'm almost positive they are from the same group that performs at our state fair every year and we LOVE them! We never miss their show and the kids get their picture taken with them each year.

Your fortunes were perfect! Though your day was not, you described it hilariously well. ...and I may have to get one of those shirts for my DH and just see what happens.

We actually saw a lot of girls and women wearing that shirt too last time we went! And a lot of guys that were probably in their 30's-40's. Basically 50% of people in AK are wearing that shirt at all times :rotfl:

I can't for the life of me find out what they're called, so I call them the acrobats in Africa in AK. Steve and I saw them in August, thought they were so fantastic we watched them twice in an hour!
It's good to know about these guys. They must be new in the last couple years. The only performers I remember are the guys who play the drums in Harambe.

I can't for the life of me find out what they're called, so I call them the acrobats in Africa in AK. Steve and I saw them in August, thought they were so fantastic we watched them twice in an hour! These pictures don't even do their performance justice, you guys should all make an effort to see them. It appears they don't begin performing until late afternoon though?? Here's another one:
We stumbled across these guys our first night. They were pretty fun to watch!

Full once again we decided to spend a little more time in AK rather than going to Disney Springs, so Ricky got to ride EE at night.
Everest at night is my favorite! Makes it a bit more scary!

OMG! That shirt story! Hilarious!:rotfl:

I have never seen those acrobats in AK. They look like the French guys in EPCOT and that's one of my DH's favorite things to watch. We will make it a point to see them when we are there!

I love your fortunes! So appropriate!

Great update :-)

Oh your fortunes from Yak and Yeti are hilarious, given the day you all day! But I'm sure they're normally very fitting. Glad you could pick some good moments out of a sometimes-frustrating day.

Love the honesty of your grumpy AK day. Sometimes trip reports seem a little *too* perfect and yours is just so real! Sometimes we just have an off day, even at the Happiest Place on Earth! Still beats being at home ;)

Can't wait to keep reading about the rest of your adventures!

Ye-tea :rotfl2:

I'm sorry this was a rough day, but it had some good moments too! Poor embarrassed Ricky...lol!! I think it was when we were there in 2015, X had a shirt that about a million other people were wearing...but he would usually just yell "nice shirt!" to them.

I really like ITTBAB...we all wanted to do it on our AK morning this year, but we just didn't have time. It's one of those attractions that I remembered so vividly from my very first trip. The carvings on the Tree of Life are just...:lovestruc:lovestruc
I want to pack the whole tree of life up and take it home with me. It's one of the most magical things at WDW in my opinion...it's neck and neck with Cinderella Castle for my favorite (and most photographed) icon.

And I can't even put into words how much I LOVED that those were your fortunes at Yak and Yeti after dealing with some grumpies during the day!! Sometimes the universe just has a great sense of humor, when we can't find much humor ourselves. I swear, anytime one of us is in a bad mood or having a bad moment at a park, it's always AK! My samosa freak out of 2014 is burned into the memories of my family forever :sad2:

Ahhhh love your update! Boys and their attitudes tho.... pfft.
I know right :snooty: And when I had my boys I figured attitude was one way I'd lucked out not having girls lol!

I've never even heard of- let alone seen these African Acrobats you speak of... adding this to my list for the next trip!
After Steve and I saw them in Aug. I looked at the times guide and couldn't even find them on there, and couldn't find them on it in Nov., either. I'm wondering if maybe they aren't permanent yet,but I really hope they are!

And the t shirt saga.... I'm hoping DH doesn't mind bc I'm buying the red "hakuna matata" shirt for him for Valentine's Day and getting myself one too !
Well you'll have to let me know if he's the only one or one of many wearing it :thumbsup2

I think they are called (fittingly) the Harambe Village Acrobats!
Whoever came up with that name is SMART! But like I mentioned above I haven't bee able to find them in the times guide :confused3 I hope they stay around awhile........

Yeah I think this is another thing that's better in the full dark. Plus when I saw it there were more dancers and stilt people - hopefully that's not a permanent cutback, just fewer scheduled during the day?
That's a possibility. There was one stilt walker but I didn't get him in the picture, but that was it. It was also the earliest show, but you'd think since it was Thanksgiving week they'd have their full staff of CM's at each one. Who knows with Disney and street entertainment, unfortunately :sad2:

Glad you all ended up having a successful if not 100% happy every minute of the day type day. Any day at Animal Kingdom is better than a day in Atlanta!
That's kind of what I was trying to get across to them all day, except sub NY for Atlanta!

Alright so it seems we have improvement in this portion of your AK day, though still a tad contentious!
Some improvement here and there, yes. But you know when you're walking on eggshells and you don't know what you might say that will tip someone over the edge? That's pretty much how I felt all day. Although most of the time I'd given up even caring lol.

You got to ride EE quite a bit! I need to borrow Ricky on my June trip so I'll have a ride buddy. Will is my best shot and I don't think he's more than 37" at this point!
Another reason to plan trips to coincide! Although then I'd be riding with you :) Maybe Will will go through a little growth spurt over the next 4 months!

Hopefully we will get to catch the African acrobats but who knows how crazy AK will be that first week of June if the Pandora rumors pan out.
My fingers are crossed for you and Pandora, since if the rumors are true Steve and I will miss it by like 4 or 5 days

And we have never caught the African Acrobats in AK, but I'm almost positive they are from the same group that performs at our state fair every year and we LOVE them! We never miss their show and the kids get their picture taken with them each year.
That is so cool!! Between these guys coming to Texas and the Gaylord Palms down there you guys have it made!

Your fortunes were perfect! Though your day was not, you described it hilariously well.
:thanks: Glad my pain can give you all enjoyment :rotfl2:

and I may have to get one of those shirts for my DH and just see what happens.
It would be funny to watch the reactions of others who are wearing it, too; see how many men start complaining to their wives for buying it and how many boys start whining to their moms......

We actually saw a lot of girls and women wearing that shirt too last time we went! And a lot of guys that were probably in their 30's-40's. Basically 50% of people in AK are wearing that shirt at all times :rotfl:
I'll tell you what, Target sure made some $$ off those shirts!

It's good to know about these guys. They must be new in the last couple years. The only performers I remember are the guys who play the drums in Harambe.
I think they're VERY new. I don't remember them at all from our January trip nor do I remember hearing or seeing anything about them between then and when we went in Aug. I really enjoy the guys who play the drums too, and the acrobats perform in the same spot :) Actually since the acrobats seem to only begin after sundown, they must take the place of the drum guys.

We stumbled across these guys our first night. They were pretty fun to watch!
Weren't they? I loved the little dancing moves the ones who weren't actually tumbling/jumping would do :dancer:

Everest at night is my favorite! Makes it a bit more scary!
This is true, but I cannot believe you'll go on this and not TOT!
I will never leave you alone about this

OMG! That shirt story! Hilarious!
If you think the shirt is funny, you should've seen the looks Ricky was giving me each time someone walked by us wearing it :rotfl:

I have never seen those acrobats in AK. They look like the French guys in EPCOT and that's one of my DH's favorite things to watch. We will make it a point to see them when we are there!
We all love the French guy too, Serveur Amusant. Sometimes we watch him like 2-3 times per trip and I'm always paranoid he'll fall lol! I'd say these guys are definitely comparable and just as fun if not more, since there's music and they're a bit more lively :goodvibes

Oh your fortunes from Yak and Yeti are hilarious, given the day you all day! But I'm sure they're normally very fitting. Glad you could pick some good moments out of a sometimes-frustrating day.
Those fortunes were priceless at that moment! And looking back the good definitely outweighs the bad ::yes::

I never saw them, but I heard about them. We have been bad about catching the WS entertainment. Going to try to fix that on our next trip!
Definitely make it a point in June! There are so many excellent performances in WS, my kids love them and it surprises me each trip that they still enjoy staying still to watch so much of it

It almost certainly will be because of my work schedule. But it will probably end up being during hotter-than-the-surface-of-the-sun July or August...
Do August!!! We've gone the past 3 Augusts and right now the plan is to most likely go again this year, but it would be towards the end since the kids aren't back in school until after Labor Day. Wait......your kids go back in early Aug., right :headache:

I am still regretting my decision not to ride yet again....I doubt I will in April seeing how I can't get Chelsy to ride either. How about you tell Steve you need to make a quick trip so you can work on your TA skills and drag me on there...:rotfl2: Ahh maybe November, Ashton is dying to get on there since she was too small last time.
LOL if I wasn't already going down in Feb. March and May I'd push for April! But I'm holding you to trying it in Nov. with Ashton :D

I've seen Devine a couple times, but I've read before that people have either never seen her or she's hard to find. I guess I just lucked into it. I think she's very cool. I hope she stays and doesn't become a victim of budgets cuts anytime. It's this kind of "atmosphere" that seems to be going away too often lately.
Oh man, I hope they don't cut her :( Do you happen to remember Mulch, Sweat and Sheers from HS? Victims of not only the changes going on over there but also budget cuts and I absolutely loved them. I also love the Citizens of Hollywood and while I was sad they cut some of them, I'm thankful they do still exist but am always afraid I'll log on here one day to see that they're all going away........

I really did like the Universal Resorts, or the ones we have seen so far. We've stayed at Portofino Bay and Royal Pacific and liked both. We had dinner at Hard Rock Cafe so saw a little bit of the inside of that one too. I'd love to see Cabana Bay and the new ones though!
Summer 2015 we went and just looked around the lobby of Hard Rock and it was really cool. That's all I've seen though!

I DID book our flights...updated my TR below. It feels good to have them done now!
I need to get over there and catch up, but having the flights booked is always such a big relief.

Love the honesty of your grumpy AK day. Sometimes trip reports seem a little *too* perfect and yours is just so real! Sometimes we just have an off day, even at the Happiest Place on Earth! Still beats being at home ;)
Aw, thank you. I didn't want to embellish what wasn't perfect or even near perfect lol. It's like some people on FB: I have a friend from college with 4 kids. Following her FB over the past how many years you'd think her entire life is a bed of roses with no negatives, nothing more than sunshine and happiness, oh and her kids are PERFECT! Every time she posts pictures of the 4 of them together smiling I picture her threatening them before snapping it :rotfl2:

Can't wait to keep reading about the rest of your adventures!
Thank you again, so glad you have you following!

And I can't even put into words how much I LOVED that those were your fortunes at Yak and Yeti after dealing with some grumpies during the day!! Sometimes the universe just has a great sense of humor, when we can't find much humor ourselves.
It did put things in perspective, that's for sure :goodvibes

I swear, anytime one of us is in a bad mood or having a bad moment at a park, it's always AK! My samosa freak out of 2014 is burned into the memories of my family forever
Um, I'm not sure if this will make you laugh or cry, but every time AK samosas come up, whether in a TR I'm reading or when I'm there and walk by the cart that sells them........
I think of your little 2014 issue :bitelip:  We all have our issues!!!!!

I'm back, and all caught up again!

I loved the honesty of your Animal Kingdom day! As magical as Disney is, sometimes people get grumpy haha.

Too funny about Ricky's shirt being everywhere. I bought Luke an awesome Lion King shirt from Teepublic that's actually different, but we have no idea where it went... we remember washing it before we went to Florida, but neither one of us can remember packing it, and we still haven't found it, so he didn't get to wear it on either trip this month :(

Despite everyone's slightly grumpy mood, it does sound like you still managed to accomplish quite a bit!

:wave2: I enjoyed seeing all your pictures from DL on FB!
Man that stinks about losing a TeePublic shirt. I'm sure it was awesome because all those shirts are!
I didn't see any point t sugar coating our AK day. After all, I let it all hang out about my vomiting Thanksgiving day last year :rotfl2:

Love all your pics and like I said on your dining report those fortunes were priceless :rotfl:
I'll have to check out the acrobats next month as well as Yak & Yeti

I hope you're also checking out F&G, I saw the menus yesterday and thought of you :goodvibes

And Away We Go!!!!!

Well away I go- Monday :thumbsup2 I leave way too early for my TA training at Universal! I'm excited yet stressed because today I managed to fracture my finger and Ricky hurt his knee pretty bad in his basketball game. We're taking him to the orthopedic walk in tomorrow because as the day wore on he started having more and more trouble walking. He hurt it in the middle of the 1st quarter and the trainers worked on it, then he came back in for the 2nd half and played great, but by the time the game was over he was in immense pain. He was STILL saying he was going to his rec league game like 2 hours later but his coach put an end to that! Now besides keeping the house clean and the kids fed I have to worry about Steve keeping an eye on whatever is wrong with Ricky's knee........

I hope you all are enjoying the weekend! Back to Universal, my flight leaves at the ungodly hour of 5:45am out of Newark airport which is almost 2 hours away. I'm actually going to meet another agent who lives about an hour away and then drive with her b/c she's on the same flight so that's pretty cool, this will be the first time I'm meeting a co-worker. Once we get down there we'll be taking a shuttle to our home for the next 3 nights:

Even though this is technically their "value" resort, I'm excited to stay here because I love the retro vibe of the resort. The thing I don't love is sharing a room with someone I don't know, but I figure there's a 50-50 chance it'll be ok and if it's not, I can pay for my own room. And possibly piss of whomever I'm rooming with but if it's bad enough for me to change rooms I probably won't care!

In addition to various trainings and other cool things they have planned for us, we get 1.5 days of park time! I know what I'll be riding over and over and over:

Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit! This was my favorite ride when we were there in 2015 but we only got to ride once. I'm hoping to find someone who will ride with me but if I have to go it alone, so be it!
Something else I'm looking forward to is going to see Blue Man Group. I've never seen them but Steve and I have discussed taking the boys. If I like it we may decide to take them in August since we want to do Universal then anyway.

Thanks for putting up with my quick off-topic post! I think I'll end up doing some type of TR combining this training with mine and Steve's March and May trips. I'll be posting some pictures on FB for sure so feel free to friend me if we aren't already friends, Ariane DeVizio. Once I return I'll continue on with our Thanksgiving trip :goodvibes

Safe travels I'm glad you can share your flight with a co worker. Sharing a room with someone I didn't know would be difficult for me too but you have a good back up plan if necessary.
Cabana Bay does look nice and seeing Blue Man group sounds really fun. That's great they are giving you a day and a half on your own in the parks :thumbsup2

I hope Ricky's knee is ok I know you'll feel better once he's checked by the doctor. Keep us posted
