Complaints About Housekeeping

I have noticed the complaints about housekeeping and I started wondering if it has anything to do with so many people wanting "towel animals"? When I first came on these boards I had never heard about "towel animals" now if people don't get them it can ruin a stay. Over the years more people would post about them. Now I wonder if many people think it's the norm to receive them?

I think they are cute, but personally I'd rather have housekeeping spend more time in my room cleaning and getting it done early then have a "towel animal" hanging out in our room. I have just noticed that since the complaints of housekeeping have gone up, so has the increase in these so called wash cloth creatures.

I know that Disney is lacking in housekeeping, but I wonder if making towel animals is hurting or maybe even perhaps helping how people view housekeeping? Is your stay more magical if you get them or would you rather have them come in and do a good job cleaning and get it done fast? I would think one or the other would have to give.

You know it would stink even more if you didn't get a "towel animal" and housekeeping still did a lousy job. I've never really had any complaints with housekeeping. The only issue I've had is when turn down service comes around 6:00. It's to early for me to be thinking about turning in for the night.

I agree with you because I think some people take the towel animals to seriously and I also thought what's the big deal if they don't get them, I mean you're in Walt Disney World and not getting a towel animal will ruin you're vacation. I guess I feel this way because my family and I don't care if we get them or not.

I agree !

If my family and I happen to be in our room when they come for turn down service, my Dad tells them they don't need to do it and asks for extra towels. We think it makes their job easier because it's one less room they need to do.

we have only stayed at asmusic, asmovies .quite a few times we must of been lucky, we had a coupld of problems with the safe and also the door lock. our rooms were always clean, plenty of towels, etc. never had any housekeeping problems. we never got towel animals, but when my dd was in elementary school , some of the moms made them and sold them at the school fairs around the holidays. so that never bothered my dd.

I completely agree! We have stayed in many of the Disney hotels since '73. I have never had a complaint with housekeeping. We have been lucky and gotten towel animals, but on some trips we haven't received a single one. That didn't change my opinion (or amount of our tips) for housekeeping.

The thing that irks me is when I hear people say that after the second day of not receiving a towel animal, they stopped tipping.:confused3

Did they also stop using the facilities and making a mess in the room? That's what housekeeping is actually there for, and as long as they're cleaning up after me, they'll get a tip...towel animal or not!

I agree about the towel animals. They started out as a novelty, a cute "extra" that you sometimes got and you felt kind of special. Now it seems like anyone that knows about them tries to figure out how to get them or is disappointed if they don't.

We are also ones that have not really ever had an issue with mousekeeping and have occasionally gotten towel animals.

To be honest, I could care less about towel animals. I would much rather have housekeeping do a good job in the room than receive towel animals. :)

I agree! I'd much prefer a really clean room and btw, we've never had issues with mousekeeping. I too have heard people say they stop tipping if they have not received a towel animal. Now that's just wrong. Mousekeeping is there first and foremost to clean your room. Tipping shouldn't just be to get a towel animal.

And a general question, here...

I know I'm an unsophisticated guy from Oklahoma, but what's the big deal about turndown service? It takes all of 10, 15 seconds to turn down your own bed, why do you want some stranger to make a special trip into your room to pull down some covers?

Am I missing something here? Mind you, I have never experienced turndown service so maybe I don't know what the thrill is.

Please educate me; I may want to insist on it when I check in next time...

Last year at CSR we had TERRIBLE mousekeeping. Our room was so dirty, ring around the toilet, garbage under the bed (from when we checked in), furniture falling apart, bottle of wine missing from our room, no towels or coffee, the list keeps going. I am not sure WHAT they were doing but they were not cleaning our room. Maybe they made our beds but that is pretty much it. We had a call in almost every day, ususally about needing towels and stuff for the room. I brougth Clorox Cleanup so I would spray everything down but it is really gross to come back to a dirty room and to get a room from the start with someone elses stuff in it. I read a thread about others having a similar problem at that same resort. I stopped tipping after the 3rd day.

I commented on this in a review I wrote on all ears. I was kind of ticked that some people were commenting on the room not being as clean as it should be and others were whining about the lack of towel animals ruining the trip. One woman even said she knew she was being petty, but the towel creations are important to her. I stated that housekeeping can't possibly make cute towel creations for all the rooms and still have time to clean the rooms efficiently. Maybe Disney should hire larger cleaning staffs to appease the cute towel lovers. Then we can listen to them complain about how the price of the rooms has skyrocketed.:confused3

We had a problem at asMovies last year with housekeeping (08/2006). We stayed 4 nights. One day they completely forgot to clean our room. We called down for them to clean and they showed up 1 1/2 later (while my DD 2 was taking a nap). I just told her to give me towels at that point. The whole time there they never gave us more soap and shampoo (only what we started with) - we weren't happy campers that trip. Needless to say no tip for Mousekeeping. :sad2:

We went last year and stayed in POR which we loved!

We did not get any towel animals. Heck, I didn't even know they existed until I found this board. :lmao:
Going again and towel animals or not, doesn't matter or have anything to do with housekeeping for me. It's a nice touch, isn't that how people look at it? It would be a shame if people were basing there HK experiences with that in mind.

The only problem I had was that one morning one of the kids shattered a glass when we were getting ready in the AM. I picked up the big pieces but did call to let them know.

When we returned at 4pm HK had not been yet so there was still little glass slivers all over the floor. I was disappointed at this particular time because of the little ones. Didn't let it spoil the magic, we headed out to swim and eat and it was done when we came back that evening.

Everything else was great.:thumbsup2

I think the towel animals are a cute touch, but it doesn't ruin our vacation if we don't get one. I think getting them all the time, everyday kinda takes away from the "special" touch.

On the DCL we got a towel animal every night. We would look forward to seeing what creation the cabin steward came up with each night. My girls' favorite was the monkey hanging from a hanger with my moms sunglasses on him!

I stayed at the CBR in Jan of this year and had great service. I must admit the room smelled of musty cleaning products when we 1st arrived I just propped the door open and it aired out quickly. After the 1st night I requested an extra blanket they not only brought it but put it on the bed. Every morning we left for the parks I left a few dollars for the housekeeper so maybe that helped with our great service. We also had several towel animals which I thought was funny because it was just the 2 of us and we are both 30 something.... it was a nice touch. I thought maybe it was because we were in a mod resort instead of the value ones.

I hope people realize that any towel animals they recieve were created and PAID for my the Mousekeeper. They actually have to buy all of their own supplies and washclothes for these. I would hate for people to expect someone to do something with their money. You never know what their living situation at home is like and if they can afford to create towel animals!

Really!? They have to buy the supplies. I never even saw one until the pics that were just posted. Looking at them it would seem that they may have to make them on their off time. Maybe if more people knew that these came at the expense of the mousekeeper, they wouldn't be so jerky about not receiving them.
