Competitive kids at disney - skating?

My daughter is a competitive figure skater and she and her coach both want her to get in a few practices while she is away this summer for two weeks. We will be at vero for a week and I understand that the nearest rink is the space coast ice plex - 1 hour away?
I have two questions.
1. Does anyone know a good rink in Orlando for our Wilderness Lodge portion? 2. Does anyone out there have competitive skating kids and is it a good idea for them to practice a few times while away to "maintain muscle memory"? If so, how often is sufficient? I've had my daughter's coaches feedback but just interested in other opinions.

Please don't think I'm crazy, no flames please, I'm just an ice mom trying to help her daughter. :)

Cheers!

RDV Complex in Maitland or there is a rink on Partin Settlement in Kissimee.

No competitive ice skating here (ds plays hockey), but no flames, either. If you Google "public ice rinks near orlando florida" there are a couple of hits that seem pretty close to the DW area. Can't vouge for the quality of ice, as I am not a local, but it does seem there are options in that area...

I would, however, call ahead of time to be sure they will be open. Don't know about down there, but the local rinks around here close for for a while during the summer to maintain equipment. Good luck!

I know how important it is to keep up practicing. I use to be a roller skater competivley..
Good Lock!!

Depends on how old/high level your daughter is to decide how much skating she needs during vacation. If she's doing double/double combinations, or triples, yes, get her to the ice 2-3 times during that two week stay. If she's preliminary, just doing singles, etc, the two weeks off the ice will not be detrimental, IMO. My daughter was able to go a month (family trip across the country) without skating and got on the ice and was fine - actually, she seemed even better than before our trip! Of course, that's when she was pre-pre.

Check with the TSA website and the airlines to see how you can transport her skates if you are flying. The blade/weapon policy seems to change a lot.
