Common for DL hotels to be mostly full for "off season"?

I'm just curious if the DL on-site hotels are usually mostly full regardless of the season or is something special suddenly going on the first week of March?
I have my trip planned but only got it booked 2 weeks ago and it seemed there was plenty of room everywhere (based on 1 phone call with a travel person and various on-line research).
Now I was working with a friend to possibly book a trip the same timeframe and suddenly all 3 DL hotels and 2 of the close off-site hotels are saying "no rooms available" for the same dates.
She just has a party of 4 so this surprised me and kind of has me worried now that it will be busier than I expected since it was before spring break kicked into high gear.
or is this normal as it gets closer to any given timeframe?
thanks

I think that this is always the case when you book throught the Disney site. I bet if you called and spoke with a reservationist at Disney, there would be room options opening. I know we have a reservation currently through Disney we will be releasing today due to fininding a better deal through a travel site.

Also take a look at Expedia or Travelocity to see if there are rooms available. If there are, I wouldn't worry so much ;) Disney has a set amount of rooms available to "sell" and reservations hold these rooms. As trips are canceled, so will the reservations be as the time gets closer. That's why I usually call every day until the room and hotel I want opens up. I use this same tactic with stays in WDW as well.

Agreed, try another website. I just learned about this one recently. www.getawaytoday.com It seems quite a few people use them. Good Luck

I think that Disney sells off blocks of rooms to Expedia, etc. when they are having trouble booking them. I noticed that there were plenty of rooms available for our January trip (at the beginning of January when things were very busy) if you checked expedia, orbitz, etc. But, the DL site kept saying no rooms available.

Thanks for the info and that makes sense about the blocks of rooms being sold to expedia, etc.
Off to look some more ;)

I had this exact thing happen to me...I went to book at the DLH and it said there were no rooms, but when I called the actual hotel to book (didn't book a package so I called the hotel directly) they had a room and I booked it! Hope you can find one!!! Good Luck!
