Commission?

Leafing through some earlier posts, I read the one about the especially pushy DVC salesman assaulting someone in the BC lobby.

It made me wonder about something. Years ago, in '97 I think, my wife and I took our first DVC tour and considered buying in then. (We later had second thoughts and declined.) But we were told by the salesperson that DVC salespeople do not work on commission. So, he told us, he wouldn't be pestering us with phone calls after we got back home. I remember thinking that was a very nice, Disney thing to do.

Has that policy changed?? Are the sales folk now working on commission?

Footnote: when (finally!) we bought in last month, our sales agent was terrific. But very very busy. She seemed to be juggling quite a few transactions. And I couldn't help but wonder if she was getting a little something extra for each sale. Which would be a nice chunka change.

Any idea?

We took the tour in June of this year and our guide told us he didn't work on commission. He wasn't at all pushy and hasn't contacted us since.

We decided to buy resale after reading these boards and are just about to close on 200 points at Old Key West.:)

Wow.....I can't imagine that!

I originally called DVC in the Fall of 2001 and got info mailed to me on DVC. I got 1 call from a tour guide just politely asking if I had any questions, and then never heard from her again.

In March 2002 I took the tour, and the original guide wasn't there so another guide took us through the tour and never once tried to "sell" DVC to us. (and believe me, I know selling, since I work in sales!) I felt like I was actually taking a "tour" and had the option to back out at any time. Our guide also seemed busy, but we never felt rushed by him.

When I returned home the original guide had called as a follow up to see if we had any questions. The whole experience was very polite and professional.

Now if someone wants to see pushy, they should go over and tour Ron Jon resorts. They practically shoved bamboo shoots under our fingernails trying to get us to buy- Those people are definitely commissioned!
