We are leaving the end of Sept and don't have our tickets. I usually get them months ahead. It doesn't look as if we will be able to use our freq flyer miles this time because they are booked. I found United had their prices down, but haven't flown United. Any comments??? We always use USAir or Delta and USAir have really cut down on the flights from Dayton. I am getting nervous we don't have our tickets yet? Anyone hear id fares will go down anymore?

I've had pretty good experiences with United (flying from Austin, TX to Seattle, WA) on business trips. My favorite is American (when someone else is paying!), because of the extra legroom.

Does Southwest fly out of anywhere near Dayton? I'm not very versed on Ohio geography--I know they go to Cleveland, but I'm not sure where that is in relation to you. When we fly as a family, we almost always fly Southwest. Between the cost savings (usually), the great customer service (always) and the friendly treatment we get, we're awfully darn loyal.

But anyway, I like United well enough.

Thanks...Southwest doesn't fly out of Dayton. I had flown Southwest in CA and had positive experiences as well. Unfortunately we are limited here, no direct flights either.

I fly United for business & leisure trips all the time. Like American, they've adjusted the coach cabin to provide more leg room .... for those who sit in their "Economy Plus" section. Alas, you have to be a VERY frequent flyer to get into that section, which is barely 1/3 of the coach cabin. Otherwise, it's cattle car time!

United's coach is not too bad if the person in front of you is somewhat considerate.

Service is usually standard for coach. On most flights they will give you the entire can of soda without you asking for it. They have started serving "meals" or snacks on some flights in coach.

You'll probably find United on par with all the others -- not a lot better and not really worse.

Ceecee - *wave* I live in Dayton, too! :) I have a Delta flight for Labor Day weekend that was ~ $175 with very short stopovers in Atlanta and no plane changes.

FYI, if you're not aware, you can fly direct from both Cincinnati and Columbus - usually for cheaper than a stopover flight out of Dayton! (I'm not doing that because this trip is a solo, and I don't like the long drive home by myself.) I think Southwest might still have a special on nonstop Columbus --> Orlando - you might want to check out their website if you've not already done so. Have a great trip!!!

I just checked Delta and it's $146.00 thru Columbus for our dates. United is down to $147.00 from Dayton. It's over an hour drive, but definately doable to save $$$. I just cked with USAir and the agent told me that in a few weeks or so, we may be able to use our freq. flyer miles with United! So are they merging, I don't know. Now I really don't know if to wait or just book.

Once you find a sale fare you like jump on it they don't last very long some sales only hours!!

I usually fly USAir (all of my miles are there). I have flown United and I thought they were just fine. Food was better onUSAir but that was the biggest difference!! Did you know that United and USAir are partnering so the air miles can be earned and used on both!!!(USAir just e-mailed me about this a week ago) So see if you can use your miles on United....

Good Luck!
Jean

Jean, the agent I spoke with mentioned that but didn't know when it would happen. I will have to call today and find out. Thanks.
