Coming Soon...The Villas at the Contemporary Resort

And we all know how reliable mice are.

Did you guys see the news on the mouseplanet.com website this morning. In their weekly WDW Update they posted some figures from WDW regarding DVC sales. Here is what they said:

Also, the Disney Vacation Club continues to grow, as Disney announced that it had sold out its 2,000th unit. The units are owned by nearly 90,000 Vacation Club members. There are shares of approximately 160 units left for sale.

I would assume that most of the 160 units left are at SSR. If this is true it doesn't seem like there is much left to sell.

That's not the way I remember it. I think we here on this board have declared that DVC will never do so. And I suspect a few guides have said it along the way and possibly even a MS CM or two have done the same. However, I don't recall even one semi official report. I don't think we'll see view differences that are fairly subtle such as at BWV, but I don't think some more obvious differentials are out of the question.
Agreed. That's what I was trying to suggest when I said that I've only 'heard' it on the DIS....

A DVC anywhere on the monorail would be so great! :cloud9: I've never had any interest in staying at CR but CRV ... that would be a different story!

Well, I don't know anything about CRV (as NONE of us here do), but they have already broken ground on a new DVC office (not resort....just office for MS and guides, etc.) at DL in CA. My guess would be that this is where the next DVC would be built. We were at DL a few months ago and the DVC signs are absolutely EVERYWHERE.

For those who know the history of DVC...have they ever built 2 resorts simultaneously in 2 different locations (for example, were the building at HHI when also doing one in WDW?)

Did they specify what phase, 2 or 3? This sounds like phase 2. That's still good news meaning phase 3 will go on sale soon and whatever resort can be announced in the nearer future.

Have they ever announced more than 1 resort at the same time like BWV and HHI?

This may happen if a CA and WDW resort are announced at the same time.

3DisneyKids: where is the Disneyland DVC office? We are going in July and would love to stop by! We were there last summer and did not see it at that time; though there was a GREAT deal of promotion, so I share your feelings that DL may be next . . .

I'm going to say this includes phase 3. When we bought last Spring our unit was being built in phase 2. In other words they will sell units that are being constructed.

I don't know how many units SSR has, but it seems to be getting somewhat close to a sell out.

Yes. At one time, BWV, VB, and HH were all being sold at the same time. I think even OKW was still being sold.

As to SSR, I don't believe that could include phase 3. Phase 3 has 276 units in it (counting 2-br lock-offs as 1 unit), and I don't think any of it has been sold yet. Phase 1 starting selling before it opened because all other resorts were sold out. Then Phase 1 sold out before Phase 2 started opening, so they started pre-selling Phase 2 also. But I don't think Phase 2 is sold out yet. I did some research a few months ago, and at that time at least some of each building in Phase 2 had been sold, except the last building opened.

There is no way Phase 3 is sold out or close to it. The incentive would have said it was for phase 3 when it's presented. Phase 2 could be close to selling out, not phase 3. That's six more buildings so it's going to be a while before SSR sells out.

John, I should have worded my question differently, Did DVC ever announce 2 resorts at the same time, meaning at the same press conference? A possible example would be HHI and BWV because they opened within 3-4 months of each other. There was a time when they were selling BCV, BWV, OKW, VWL, HHI and VB all at the same time to try to sell them all out. This was back in 2003 right before SSR went on-sale and they gave $10 off plus points from the previous use year. I think it was $74 a point ($84-$10 off).

Hmm. Don't know if they announced more than 1 resort at the exact same time. But VB, HH, and BWV were all under construction at the same time. The announcements for all 3 resorts must have been within 6 months or so of each other.

I'm wondering if a 'unit' might refer to a section of more then one villa. I know when I was looking up the floor plans to BCV on the Orange County website they were submitted in 'units' that contained a few villas each. ....or it might be that 1 unit = 1 villa. :confused3

Yes, that's true, although in my post above I guess I was equating a 'unit' with a 'villa'.
When they declare a 'unit' into DVC inventory, it can contain any number of 'villas'. In my research on SSR, it seems that the 'units' varied from as little as 1 villa, to 3 or 4 villas. In the first building opened in Congress Park, the 'units' contained even more 'villas', as they declared 'units' into DVC in larger blocks since that building was sold out before the resort opened.

Yeah, I gotcha. I was just trying to make that "160 units left at SSR" match up with something ...and failed. :p

I've put some pushpins on a map indicating where *I* think the best places for an Magic Kingdom DVC resort would be..

Monorail passes directly over two of the properties and nearby one of them.

As a side note, while I don't doubt the STOL airstrip is the next site necessarily.. I think its a terrible location if the idea is to be a Magic Kingdom DVC Resort. Plus, it's proximity to the race track, the parking lot, the main entrance to the TTC and so forth just seems bad. Think about it, this is the most highly traffic'd intersection in all of Disney. Car noises, horns etc late at night - especially around the holidays. Ick.

There are LOTS of better places. Here are three.. :)

What about all that ground north and east on Bay Lake? Instead of another Villas of something DVC, they can build an entire DVC complex, like SSR & OKW. It won't have a monorail, but a 10 minute boat ride is nice too.

I agree this would be a great location. However, based on information I have seen here and other sites, it will never happen. Apparently Disney has considered building a resort there before, but are unable to due to land stability issues.

As far as the STOL airstrip, I do not see this being the next DVC location (though you never know). THe rumor/news I heard was that this area was handed over to imagineering for the construction project at the CR. This project is the new DVC wing.

I know there are those that do not think the CRV will happen (at least anytime soon). For all those naysayers, there is one piece of information you can provide that will kill this rumor...

The start date for refurb of the North Wing.

The room refurbishment at the CR has been know for sometime and is public knowledge. There is no reason for Disney to keep the start date for the North Wing refurb secret. So this infromation should be fairly easy to come by.

Unless...

There are other plans for this building. :thumbsup2

The scheduled start date of the CR North Wing refurb is indeed no secret: 4/1/07.
