Date we stayed: January 9, 2011

We were flying across the country to Orlando, and wanted a place to stay when we landed, to be able to go back to MCO the next day and get on DME when our reservation started at AKL.

I researched many hotels in and near the airport that had free shuttle service from and to the airport. I also wanted a king size bed, because my husband and I have a king, and would be sleeping on a queen at AKL for the duration of our trip to WDW. After starting the day at 5am, and flying on 2 airplanes, we needed our rest! We also needed another sleeping space (bed or pull-out sofa) for our daughter. She's 23, and wanted this trip for her graduation present.

Another requirement I was hoping for was a free full breakfast. We were staying club level at AKL and didn't have a dining plan. I wasn't sure what time we'd get to AKL, checked in, and able to go to the concierge lounge. I wanted something other than continental for breakfast before heading over and getting on DME.

So with many hours of research online, reading reviews, taking notes, and checking discount sites, we decided on Comfort Suites and another mystery hotel, with no name, but identifying markers on Hotwire. It was actually my husband who suggested going with the king size bed the first night, because of all the traveling we'd be doing, and the need for a good night's rest.

I booked the room for 3 adults, through The Entertainment Book's link that directed me to the Choice Hotel link. This is important because by going through Ent Book, I got a 10% discount off the room, which roughly paid for most of the tax that's added on.

The room was $71.99 + 9.00 tax = $80.99

When I got the printout under our door the next morning, they had added on $1 for the hotel safe use. We did not use the safe for one night, and had the charge removed when we checked out. Hey, a bucks a buck and it went into the tip envelope for the week.

From our previous trip to WDW in '09, we knew we wouldn't be up to going to a park or really moving around after flying and traveling all day. We felt $80 was well worth it for a good night's sleep, and full breakfast the next day. It beat paying to just sleep at AKL for the first night, not doing anything special.

Ok. Let me tell you about the room...

It is exactly as it is depicted on their website. When you enter the room, the bathroom is on the right. It is spacious and clean, and comes with a hairdryer, shampoo and soaps. Everything works in the bathroom. The taps work, the fan works, and the hairdryer. There was no mold. The room's A/C works and virtually soundlessly too.

There is a sofabed, coffee table and TV on a low dresser. There is a little divider against the wall by the couch, floor to ceiling, separating the couch from the bed. The closet is at the foot of the bed.

The bed is very comfortable. It is adorned with a fluffy wide comforter, soft sheets, and semi-firm bed. The only draw back is the half length pillows. It's like they took all the pillows and cut them in half, to give you an idea.

The sheets and blanket for the pull-out couch are on the shelf in the closet. My daughter (remember she's 23) refused to pull the couch out and put the sheets on it. She said it was too much work. So she slept on the sheets on the couch as it was.

This motel is 100% smoke free. (Which they remind you of at check-in) It is very soundproof. All the room doors are interior.

On their website, they state that Waffle House is adjacent to their property. It was really more like 1/2 mile down the street. We were going to eat dinner there, but were really too wiped out to walk down there. Even the 23 year old was too tired. So we ordered Italian food from Joe's Pizzeria, that I do not recommend.

At MCO, around 6:00pm, we called for the motel shuttle on the courtesy phones near baggage claim. We were told to wait at the designated stand for the next shuttle. It was either A or B I can't remember. We waited for probably 30 minutes.

What I do remember is the MCO taxi herder had an argument with our shuttle driver over where he could and couldn't park. Our shuttle driver kept asking for a supervisor's name, and saying that Mears was taking over all the pick-up spots. When we came back to MCO at the end of the week, it seemed that kerfuffle was sorted out because it no longer looked like a fuster cluck at the shuttle pick up spots.

But back to Comfort Suites...
We had a really good night's sleep. (Can't say that enough!) Got up and went to breakfast around 8:30am. About 9:00am it started to get busy.

  • Coffee (many flavors and the regulars are brewed dark or medium)
  • Liquid creamer, milk
  • Egg omelets (ham, peppers, onions)
  • Sausage gravy
  • Biscuits
  • Cold cereal
  • Instant Grits, and oatmeal
  • Make your own Waffles
  • Orange juice
  • Fresh whole fruit

It was a good breakfast and very filling. Everything was replenished frequently.

We had booked the shuttle back for 10:00am at check-in, but they were late. Good thing we didn't have a plane to catch. The shuttle driver asked where everyone was going. We said Disney World. He let us off at their motel allotted pick up space and directed us where to walk. We entered the buidling and I think we walked from one end of baggage claim to the other end to get to DME.

I highly recommend this motel for it's room size, comfortable bed, convenience to airport, free shuttle, and full breakfast. And it's smoke free which was really nice!
