has anyone ever stayed there? Tried to do a search but it kept coming back as not having found anything..

The dates of 4/7 - 6/14
8/16 - 11/26
12/2 - 12/20
with the Magicard are $35 a night.. Is this a really nasty place?

There's also the Country Inn & Suites on International Drive (closer to Universal) for $39 a night..

Comments on either? Thanks!

If you are talking about Comfort Suites Lake Buena Vista you need to type it that way and you will get a lot of info. from fellow dis'ers. Good luck !!

We stayed at there a few years ago and survived  We stayed for a few nights while doing off-site stuff and visiting relatives then moved to DXL. The room to me was grungy and dark.....possibly they have redone some of the rooms since then. We found the one day when it was raining quite hard the gateguard to be quite a jerk......insisted he needed to see the room key which was on the keychain of the vehicle in order to let us through......even though I had the receipt in my hand......he insisted he could not step out into the rain to look at my receipt so I had to shut off the van and hold the key up. At the time there was a huge tour group staying there from Brazil and we found them to be quit loud and obnoxious......not that American teenagers wouldnt have been just as loud. The kids were amazed when we checked into DXL.....thought they were in Paradise since the room was so clean and bright. :sunny: One good point was that at the beginning of the street was a Pizza Hut and the Downtown Disney Entrance was very close. I'd say if you're not going to be in the room at all then its so-so but we spent evenings out at DD just to avoid going back to the room too early.

I almost stayed here last May, but the reviews I read were terrible. Dirty, dark, etc. It used to be a Disney Partner hotel, like if you went to a travel agent and got a Disney World planner book they were in 2001, but not 2002.
Entertainment rate at Country Inn and Suites, Calypso Cay Way is where we ended up was 39.50 for a standard room with huge breakfast buffet included, and the property is opened in October 2001, very new. Heated pool had a zero depth area, plus a small waterslide and sprays. Took less than 10 minuted to drive to WDW.

Iowagirl can you tell me if the
Country Inn and Suites is past Universal Studios or before:D

I just made a ressie there for 3 nights. At $35, how bad can it be? I read some travel reviews on travelocity that said that the interior has been redone.

Since this is a spur of the moment trip, I'm just trying to save money. It can't be that bad!! :jester:

Another recent post on this board has AAA rate of 36.12 at Amersuites at Calypso Cay Way. That poster was going in Feb., so not sure how long that great rate will last, super nice place with awesome pool and hot breakfast. All brand new....

Princess Ariel 34--
It is South of Universal, closer to WDW, but still it took us only 15 minutes to drive to Universal from Calyspo Cay Way. It is just South of Osceola Parkway, where it intersect with 535. Osceola parkway is the road to WDW.

It CAN be that bad!! :)

I did the same - booked it once when I took an impromptu trip and wanted to save money. Flew in on a red eye, and even though it was January and the hotel was empty, they refused to give me my key one minute before 4pm.

Room was really grungy with nasty carpet and 'leftover' toenails, etc from previous gst. Asked for Hskp to come up and vacuum while I went out. Came back (alone) at 9pm and my door was wide open with all my things inside!!! Needless to say I was furious and checked out immediately. Then had to find somewhere else to say, but even with paying a few extra dollars a night I was glad to get away!

There are a lot of good deals out there - you couldn't do any worse for a similar price by bidding for a 3* hotel in the LBV zone on priceline, for instance. Or some of the deals on mousesavers for Disney hotels.

I have learned that hotels are the one thing not to go too cheap - even if it means doing a few more picnic meals or not renting a car....

Been there three times for one night stays...never had a problem. suggest you ask for a room on the opposite side from I-4, if you're a light sleeper:D

Spent 5 nights there last April on a spur of the moment trip (all the WDW moderates were sold out and I HATE the All Stars). Our room was large, clean, included a refrigerator. Had no problems. We had our own car so we didn't use the trans. service there. I was there with my 2 kids and I appreciated the fact that the guard actually checked the cars coming and going, called up to my room when my friend came to visit, etc. Didn't eat there either, there are so many restaurants in the area. This hotel made for a good cheap trip (already had the AP's). I'd spend a few days here again.

Count me amoung the never agains. I found the place dirty and the front desk staff just flat out RUDE! I was coming from the West Coast and wound up getting delayed LOTS of times and arrived at 7am. I had guaranteed the room for late arrival the night before so I knew I had been charged. When I went to check in I had to fight with them to get my key! Now I can kind of understand not letting you check in early, but I was actually checking in VERY late for a room that they had already charged my credit card for. Plus having a pool with a view of I-4 is not real relaxing in my point of view!

We stayed there over Easter break. While I have to agree that the front desk staff was pretty much rude and useless (and always a line), we found the hotel very clean and suited our needs perfectly. The family suite was perfect for us with the bunk beds and junior bed (3 kids), their own tv/vcr, a microwave, and a fridge. We had a queen size bed for DH and I.

The pool was very nice with towels available at the pool, too.

We ate at the restaurant once, but probably wouldn't eat there again. There are just too many good choices nearby!

We were able to check-in before 4:00pm.

I would suggest requesting a room on the parking lot side rather than the pool side (I-4). We could hear the highway traffic at night. (One night they were doing construction, too.)

We did not use the transportation because we had our own vehicle.

Overall, I thought it was fine for the price.
Beth
