Okay, I got a letter from the cable company that our current cable package is going to increase $9 a month starting in April:scared1: I've been thinking that I want to just cut out most of the cable and go to Expanded Basic, but DH isn't quite on board for that. Problem is, we have 5 TVs in the house. The inlaws have UVERSE and have had a slew of trouble with it, and I don't want to deal with the troubles they've had.

I've been looking things up, and Comcast has a Triple Play bundle with phone, internet and tv for $99. It has some digital channels in the lineup but not all, which would be fine. It includes the phone and cable internet as well. At this point we have DSL with At&T.

The things I want to know and can't get a straight answer from Comcast about are these: Can I keep my phone number (they say 'its not guaranteed')? How much extra are they going to charge me above the $99 bundle package for things like cable box rental, taxes and fees? The phone company charges outrageous fees above the 'price', does Comcast add all those things on too? And are they going to expect me to install their software of some sort on one of our computers to run the cable connection? We currently have the DSL set up without having any of their software installed, and DH refuses to put 'their crap' on our computer (his words and stubborness). What's the call quality/reliablity of the internet phone?

Can anyone comment or tell me the good. bad and the ugly of this Comcast bundle (i think it's called Digital XF starter or something like that)??

Thanks!!

We have Comcast triple play. We didn't get the $99 deal, because we had comcast cable before we added phone and internet. They did give us a price break, and extended it to keep us from going w/ FIOS.

So far so good. It has been about 18 months. Our digital phone service hasn't had problems. We did have an issue with the voicemail, and not being able to delete messages. Our mail box filled up, and we couldn't receive new ones. We called and they reset it, and then no issues since.

We were able to transfer our number.

The internet has been perfect. No problems whatsoever. Not sure that it is faster than the verizon DSL, but my girls swear it is. My DH was able to set it up, after a call to cust. service. I just asked him and he doesn't remember having to install anything, just hooking up the router thing. I can't swear to that though. We do pay per month for the router. It is under $10 month.

The only thing I don't like with the cable, is that the DVR is only one room and the memory isn't huge. It seems to get full fast. I would rather have the multi-room DVR, plus they raised the price of the DVR.

Our extra cable boxes cost around $10 each plus taxes.

I don't know what stations are included w/ the $99 deal. We have unlimited phone, wireless internet, digital cable w/ DVR on one TV, and 4 extra outlets of non-digital. We have Sho, HBO, starz, and encore on all of them, and pay around $190 month w/ taxes.

I will say that comcast has A lot of On Demand selections...many that are free. They show a lot of network shows for free, which is good since the DVR doesn't show as much.

I just looked into this. I was looking at the $139. I already have comcast phone and internet, just wanted to add cable. We have had no issues whatsover with the phone or the internet, except for their telephone help to be a bit useless.

Extra cost quoted to me were $7.50 per TV , except $7.95 if it was an HD box. DVR was $15 a month. The base price only covers 1 TV. We have 4 TVs , 2 which are HDTV and would also need 2 DVR. We decided to stick with our Dish... I do know the cost might be different for other areas. I live in South Florida.

Also, Starter XF, if I remember only has free HD for 3 months and then you would have to pay for it which is $7.95 a month.

After having all 3 I could not see paying 160.00 a month. The only thing I take is internet. I have netflix and hulu. We are perfectley happy and not giving all our money to a company. I even tried to see if I could get a discount the only thing they offered me was 10.00 a month off. I said no and shut off everything else. It just depends on what you want to pay for the services.
