Combining rented points with owned points?

I have not even received the "big box" with all our DVC paperwork and I have spent lots of time on the point calculator planning vacations. If I need only 12 additional points for a stay, how do I combine those with my owned points if I rent them from someone on the Rent/Trade board? Does this work or not? Anyone done this? I know, I know.....buy more points.......DH just agreed to this after 5 years of trips paying cash so I have to go easy here.

You set up the rental and have the renter transfer the points to your account via member services.

you can only made one transfer per year - so you can have the renter made a one night reservation and link your reservation to the one he made for you.
