Blech. Who else has been through this joyous prep? Please tell me the actual event is not nearly as bad as the preparation!

Been sick as a dog for over 2 months so hoping for some answers but surely there is an easier way than drinking a gallon of what tastes like soapy salt water. :scared:

The prep is the hard part. Once you get the liquid down, the rest is easy. The colonoscopy itself is super easy. You will fall asleep and wake up not realizing anything just happened.

The prep bites!!!!!!!

BTDT! The prep was worse than the procedure and I did mine without any sedatives.

Oh I am doing the prep to the letter. Luckily since I have been sick, I didn't really eat anything yesterday and have been on clear liquids all day today there isn't much work that needs to be done. :rolleyes1 I have the last half gallon of this nasty concoction to drink at 1am then I'm done.

I can't WAIT for real food! I hope I feel up to eating on the way home. My best friend said she stopped at Sonic on the way home after hers!

You were AWAKE during yours??? :scared1: I didn't know that was possible. I had an endoscopy in college and I was somewhat awake during that (well more like "twilight sleep") but I was told I would be knocked out for this.

Actually, there is a pill form that some doctors will prescribe instead of the yucky, yucky liquid....I know, dosen't help you now, but just in case anyone else is in this situation, ask about taking the pills......much, much better than the liquid and has the same results.

My best advice is not to eat too heavy or spicy the few days before prepping and start your prep a little early. My doctor said start at 4:00 pm, I started my pills around 1:00 pm and was glad, actually got a little sleep that night. I got a gold star for the cleanest colon my doctor had ever seen .

I am going to start drinking the 1am dose now. Just too tired to stay up and I am sure it will take me an hour to get the whole half gallon down without gagging.

I even mentioned to DH tonight about pills and told him that boy it would sure be easier if they had pills for this!

The IV failed and I didn't get my "twilight" anesthesia. Doc asked if we should try without and I said yes. Didn't want to do the prep again. Finally as I got home the medicine worked and I slept the rest of the day:confused3

I've done this multiple times, be careful how quickly you eat the next day. For some folks anything and everything is fine, not for me. I start with homemade soup, sleep a while, wake up and eat some more....slow and easy.

The worst is over, I hope you get the answers you need.

Nobody's Colonoscopy prep is complete without this!

But really it's not fun having a colonoscopy. :(

That was hysterical and this was really not the time to be laughing so hard. :rotfl:

Thanks for the laugh. I needed that. :)

On a side note - I'm only 41 but have a friend who had colon cancer at age 38. I was surprised to see that the article recommended having a colonoscopy at age 50. I know quite a few people my age that have had this procedure.

The reason for that might be because the article dates back to the late 90s. I'm no expert at all but the colonoscopy age range may have dropped over the course of the last decade. :confused3

Of course I don't really know; my dad had a colonoscopy a few years ago when he turned 50 so... I'm really just guessing here.

Good luck tomorrow, Kel, yup the worst is the prep which you are almost done with.

I had one in 2008. :thumbsup2

The prep is the worst of it. I remember asking if they were going to start the procedure and being told it was already over too. Good luck! :thumbsup2

Thanks, Kar. Thankfully B has the day off (Veterans Day) so he can go with me.

This last half gallon of stuff isn't going down nearly as easy as the first half.

Oh awesome! I was wondering because they require that you have a driver due to the meds they give you. Who is watching the babe?

Come back an update us as to how you did and what you thought of it.

Now get some sleep, ok!

Babe is going with - B is watching him at the Dr's office. We have a few new Disney Cars toys put up for him to keep him occupied and B picked up 2 of the Megamind Happy Meal toys for him at McDs.

I'm just ready for some answers. Sick of being sick.

I'm off to bed as soon as I scarf down some more of this stuff. I am about at my limit.

I'm sorry you are having to go through this. But it is for the best. I haven't had to do it yet, but I was with my mom during her ordeal. She hated the drinking of the slime too! If it is any consultation. . .the procedure itself is not that bad. The worst part is what you are going through now. I went to my mom's because we were going to go out for lunch. . .but she said, "You don't understand. I can't leave the house. I can't be that far away from a bathroom." :rotfl2: The actual procedure was a piece of cake. :thumbsup2

Prep stinks. Procedure is nothing and you will be glad you did it. I have done it twice. It literally is my lifesaver since I had precancerous polyps removed at 41 in the first go round.

Exactly! Hoping today goes well for you. My mom is an 8 year survivor. If she had a colonoscopy rather than the barium enema thingie, we could have caught it earlier and not had to deal with the chemo.
