We are planning a trip to Colonial Williamsburg in Virgina and we are trying to decide if we also want to go to Bush Gardens for a day while we are there. We have two kids ages 5 and 8. The 5 year old won't go on any roller coasters, the 8 year old may want to go on some of the smaller ones. My question is if we won't really be riding any of the coasters, is it still worth going to the park? Is there enough other things to do there, animal shows etc..?

There are things other than coasters there. Smaller rides, some animal viewing areas, theatre type attractions.

Hi,
We are in Williamsburg now! We went to Busch Gardens today! Honestly, if you don't like roller coasters I would skip Busch Gardens. There are a few other rides but not many.

Go. Its a very beautiful park, second only to WDW. Lots of stuff to do there even if you're not a coaster fan.

When are you planning to go? BG is only open Friday, Saturday and Sunday through the end of October. Also, it is "Howl-O-Scream" time. After 5:00, the ghosts and goblins come out to play. There are some kid friendly things, but several attractions (train, Pompei, water flume) are shut down and re-invented as "haunted" attractions not suitable for young children.

We have three kids (6, 3 and 1) and have season passes. My kids never get tired of going. There are some "flat" rides (scrambler type rides, rocking boats, etc.). Your 5 yo will have plenty to do without coasters and if your 8 yo rides the Big Bad Wolf and Loch Ness, that's probably plenty of excitement.

The show schedule is better on Sat and Sun. than on Friday (many performers are students). But I think the animal shows go on every day.

HOGFAN is right. It is an incredibly beautiful park that offers something for every member of the family.

How long does Colonial Williamsburg take to do? We are planning on arriving there about noon and wonder if we'll be able to finish it that day. What time does it close? We are planning a spring break trip.

Cruising over to http://www.history.org will help to answer many questions.

To give Colonial Williamsburg only one afternoon is to give the place short shrift. One would be doing both the historical site, their own time and the money they have spent on admission tickets (not a cheap thing there either) a great disservice.

There are wonderful museums to explore there on top of the homes, taverns, historical trades, shows, tours, and the Governor's Palace. These are the streets where once walked Thomas Jefferson, George Washington, and Patrick Henry. Give the place its due and you'll certainly enjoy it a great deal.

You definitely can't see everything in Williamsburg in an afternoon. When we went as kids, we spent 2 days, and still didn't think we saw everything. When DH and I went as adults, we spent 3 days and saw just about all of the exhibits and other stuff going on (my parents worked there, so they gave us a good idea of what to see and when)

Busch Gardens is nice, and worth the time if you have it. It's not Disney, but might be the next best thing :)

Have a great trip!

Jen
