I've found with price comparisons that my schools bookstore is overpriced and they NEVER have USED books. (of course they want to sell New at overinflated prices)

I have looked at:

Ebay (have one of the books I need on watch, auction ends in a few days)

Half.com (prices are higher than I want to pay)

B & N. com They have a good used price, and they offer decent shipping. They do it differently than say Amazon, or half.com

Amazon.com has a higher used price, and I'm not crazy about their feedback system.

Found a website, and asking for opinions if you have bought from them www.collegebooksdirect.com They have the best used price and thier shipping is $4 (not unreasonable) especially from Texas to where I am. (Northeast)

Has anyone used www.collegebooksdirect.com? The website seems ok, its not fancy or anything.

You might want to try www.mbsdirect.net. That's where I just ordered textbooks and they seemed to have a larger selection...might be worth a try to see if they have what you need!

I have always been happy with half.com prices compared to the school bookstore and local college bookstores. Plus you have half.com as the third party so you have recourse if there is any problem with the transastion (I have never had a problem in the 3 years I have been using the site). You pay half.com and twice a month they pay the sellers.

I especially like half.com for reselling my books. Sometimes I am able to sell a textbook for more than I paid for it at the beginning of the semester.

As a matter of fact, I am on my way to the post office to mail out a book right now!

If you want used books you need to go a few weeks before your semester starts. Where i go to school (Angelo State Univeristy San Angelo Texas). The bookstore on campus and the one off campus usually have the used books during the few weeks before classes start.

I always bought my textbooks through Barnes and Noble, b/c I always used my discount card. I also bought additional books for the free shipping. Books are one of my weaknesses!

I buy mine from the two local college bookstores right by campus or from friends who have taken the class previously.

I was a seller on half.com years ago when it first came public before ebay bought it. I have also bought from them, but I've been watching this edition for the past month on half.com and nothing came up within the price range I want to pay.

I researched it out and half.com was over $12 more then this collegebooksdirect.

The college bookstore was over $14 over than what I wanted to pay.

The next book I will try to get from an inter library loan at the township library. I had good luck doing that and got three textbooks for free that way, but I need about a month lead time. I've gotten textbooks from libraries in Vermont and Texas (I'm in the Northeast). I've never had to pay any extra for these textbooks. I guess I've gotten spoiled for getting them for free...

As for friends that have taken courses, since I'm a non traditional transfer student, I am at different level courses than most of the students. ..so that really isnt a resource for me.

There has been used books for over a month in my college, but again not at prices that I want to pay. They have overinflated prices...

But again, I'm used to paying nothing for free library loans.

I buy my text books at half.com, I was able to get a new book for cheaper than the price of a used book that they offered. This semester on one book I saved $35.00 by going with them. For a used book it was going to be $100 and I paid a total of $65 for my new book that was in shrink wrap. Good luck, I hate buying text books, they are so expensive.
