College Football 2023-Year of The Dawgs?

Just to stir the pot, let's play "what if" for a minute;
What if;
Georgia beats Alabama on Saturday. You get Washington, Michigan, Georgia...and FSU is in, Texas is out, right?

That just seems like such a no-brainer to me - OF COURSE the playoff is composed of 4 unbeaten teams.

Right?

I get the frustration. But there are a lot of non-selection committee member fans who also believe the SEC is the nations dominant conference ..kind of hard to argue. Even though you can say ACC was 6-4 vs. SEC this year, there's a lot to peel back using that as a comparison. So do you not put the SEC champion in the Playoff? I'd be complaining about the other 3 schools before I used an SEC team to point a finger at.
Thats the whole point, the committee was looking at previous years and not this year. SEC teams play at most one team OOC that is half decent and 6 of those teams lost, so what did the SEC do to prove it was the best conference. Beating Georgia Tech?

The old BCS calculation showed Bama #3, FSU #4, TX #5.

Does that mean TX kept FSU out?

PS - the 1st time BCS has differed from CFP in a 4-team scenario.

A pretty bad Kentucky team beat Louisville 🤷🏻. Alabama with a #5 strength of schedule, FSU #55 …so who’s playing pushovers?

No. I’d say Texas gets in based on Strength of schedule and FSU is still out. Depending where you look Texas is a Top 10 SOS and FSU is 50+. That hurts.

Bama will be the 1st team to play the #1 team in back-to-back games in the same season. GA, now MI.

(watching the replay of the Selection Show on ESPN currently).

Gonna be tough, for sure.

Just saying, if it’s a close decision between two schools of what are supposed to be considered power conferences, I personally give the nod to the team that didn’t lose a game.

Even if that school (FSU) is the one that crushed the one and only chance my Alma mater has ever had at a National Title…

And yeah next year it likely won’t be an issue as the power conference winners probably get a bid into the 12-Team playoff.
Who coined the phrase “Power Conference“ anyway? I mean Power 5 doesn’t mean much since it includes, what, close to 60 odd schools? Would anyone consider the ACC a Power 3 conference? Not me. And there would be debate if they were a Power 4. I’m not down on the ACC as a football conference but if you asked most NCAA football fans to name the top conferences ….ACC doesn’t make many Top 3. Basketball? Sure!

That can be your personal decision, of course.

However, the College Football Playoff committee has had a different set of rules for a decade. And THEY are the ones who make the picks.

I thought the same thing 😂

Someone should help him get his number changed. It's not hard.

You 'member when Bama fans got Tebow's number?

I 'member. :rotfl2:Everything old is new again apparently.

You want Saban to change his phone number after every big win? He'd have to change it several times a year. ::yes::

Again, all I can say is thank you for your professed faith in the Bama program. Since you believe so strongly in Alabama, please consider contributing to the Bama NIL fund at https://www.yea-alabama.com/.

Thank you for your obvious support.

I know it’s apparently easy to rag on the ACC. Since the topic of conference records in the playoff has been brought up, the ACC is the only additional “Power 5” conference technically with a winning record in the CFP at 6-5.

SEC 16-5
ACC 6-5
PAC 12 1-2
BIG 3-7
Big 12 1-5

The Power 5 naming has been around for what almost 2 decades now?

Saban has been complaining about the calls. There is a solution.
And BamaEd, we may not agree on football but I really enjoy reading the camping board. My camping days are over but it's still fun to read about other folk' adventures.

Well to be fair, he didn't complain. He "acknowledged". I think he believes it's a compliment to the achievements of the Alabama program. In this day and age, whatever headlines claim is 99% Fake News "Saban Complained...."

I'm not hard to find and yes I love camping at Fort Wilderness.

But I've been a Bama fan and attended home games since 1978 (the last few Bryant years) and suffered through the Perkins, Curry, Price, DuBose, and Shula years. Coach Stallings was a breath of fresh air in the midst of that but we are enjoying the GOAT/Saban years.

They won't last forever. But as I said, I've been on the other side.

Thanks @Marrila . Have a great night and Roll Tide!

Ron DeSantis is setting aside one million dollars for any possible litigation!

Do you think it will go that far?

DeSantis announced Tuesday that his 2024-25 budget includes $1 million for “any litigation expenses that may come as a result of this really, really poor decision by the CFP to exclude an undefeated team” that won a major conference title.

Boy, that guy. He's at the top of my list of people I really want to like, but he won't stop doing stupid things.

In my best Woody in Toy Story, "IT IS A G-A-M-E!!! IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE F-U-N!!"

He’s just playing a different game.

The hatred for the SEC on this thread is pretty funny, and is really no different than the conference support the haters criticize so much. I don’t really follow college football closely these days, but it always made sense to root for the other teams you play. The better they do, the better your results against them look.

It seems the anger of FSU supporters (with whom I greatly sympathize) would be better placed on ESPN/Disney. They’re the ones driving this decision, so they can make as much money as possible.

Here's a positive spin; 3 of the 4 playoff teams are going to finish the year with a loss. The last time FSU was beaten was (checks records) a 34-28 loss to Clemson on October 15, 2022. That will be nearly as long as Washington if they win (last loss was October 8, 2022 to ASU) and longer than Michigan if they win (last loss was the Fiesta bowl to TCU on 12/31/2022). I suggest they root for everybody but Washington, win their bowl game against Georgia and trumpet the longest win streak in major conference football going in to play in Fall '24. That alone should get them the pre-season #2 ranking.

Let's throw this out there... *IF* FSU loses to Georgia, will those saying they should be in the CFB say...
A) Maybe we're not as good as the top of the SEC?
B) If we would have had our starting QB, the game would have been different!
C) Our team didn't really play because there was no meaning in the game. If it was CFP, they would have played better.
