Colbert/Steward Rally in Washinton?

My 12yo son is a huge fan of the Colbert Report, so we're talking about going to the rally on Oct. 30th. I'm nervous, though... I've never been to one of these kinds of events and I don't know what to expect.

Has anyone else ever been to a Washington political rally? How big do you figure it'll be? Any survival tips? We're thinking of staying with a friend and driving to the subway, parking, then taking the train down to the mall.

This will be an interesting one to watch.

They are expecting 25,000 people which is not a lot, I think, as far as these rallies go.

My son would love to go, of course. He has been to the March for Life (it was an option at his Catholic school) and he hated that so I think he thinks he would enjoy this one.

The only thing that bothers me about this stuff is "the crazies." If there is an opposing side to this rally and they are anywhere on the fringe, I just worry that they could do something stupid.

If you decide to go, travel with patience. Go early, be prepared for crowds, bring your comfortable walking shoes, and go with a good attitude.

I have no idea how many people this kind of rally will bring. I'm not sure if it's going to draw the crowds that the last rally did or it may bring even more. Heck I'm thinking about going for the fun factor! Of course, I doubt I'll go because my husband wouldn't be caught dead at any rally.

The biggest thing is be prepared to be smushed on the metro if there are lots of people and travel early. If you can walk a good distance, you can also walk to another metro stop instead of just the National Mall stop after the rally. Bring a metro map with you.

I think it is a sad state of affairs that a comedian (Stewart) does the best political interviews on TV.

I wouldn't worry about it - it is really more of an entertainment event than a political rally. Unless, as others have mentioned, some crazies take it too seriously and show up. I truly doubt there would be any serious trouble.

That is Marine Corps Marathon weekend. A very, very huge deal. Hotels, transportation, restaurants--all will be affected. The actual race takes place on the 31st, but there will be festivities all weekend.

I think it would be great fun to go. And you may show up on t.v. on their shows.

if the crazys are dumb enough to show up, you can bet that both stewart and colbert would use them for maximum comedy value.

I want to go and carry a sign that says "Hey! I don't agree with you, but I don't think you're Hitler!" With a big ole' smiley face on the other side.

Isn't it supposed to be the Moderate March or something along those lines?

Ditto. I may try and go. I have relatives in Washington so I may drive down that morning and park at their place. relatively easy for me.

Okay, the hotel room is booked! My husband and son will definitely be there. Me, I'll be glued to the TV, trying to see if I can spot them in the crowd.

Attendance at Glenn Beck’s Tea Party event was estimated to be in the neighborhood of 500,000 people. It will certainly be interesting to see if Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert can attract similar crowds for their events. Likewise, if they do attract a large crowd, it should generate some interesting discussion about the values of American’s today. In other words, what do American’s value more: The political future of their country, or a few good laughs?

I was watching MSNBC the other day and they were talking about how The Daily Show has the best staff of investigative reports in existence. It was actually Joe Scarborough who said it and he's pretty much conservative and hates Jon Stewart but was giving his staff their props.

I'm seriously thinking about going. It's just a short trip down 95 for me...then probably hell on the Metro.

We watch both shows on comedy central and I love them , they are both clowns and I would love to see them in person! I voted for Colbert when he was on the nominations for SC for president, I can only imagine what the country might look like if one of those clowns were president
