OK, let me preface tis by saying I don't know the FIRST thing about gardening, except that I like my flower bed to look nice. Unfortunately, a green thumb I do not have.

I heard that used coffee grounds can be a good fertilizer. I drink a LOT of coffee.

Before I start dumping my used grounds around plants, flowers, & trees, is there anything I need to know or do?

Are the used grounds safe for all types of plants?

Thanks for helping to diminish my ignorance!

for the last six years my husband has taken the coffee grounds and thrown them out the window on the lawn near the roses and also the lilac bushes....one is thru one window and then at the other end of the house he does the rest.

You just have to be careful about the pH. Coffee grounds are quite acidic. I side dress acid loving plants with straight grounds, the rest I compost.

Certain plants prefer acidic soil - those are the ones you want to feed your coffee grounds to. The only one I know for sure, off the top of my head, are azaleas.

Boy, is THAT good to know!

I have 3 azaleas by my walkway. Two are so-so, the other is a little sad looking.

As chance would have it, I was visiting my in-laws the other day and I remarked how beautiful the 3 bushes were in front of their house and what they were. You guessed it... azaleas! Mine didn't look ANYTHING like theirs.

Coffee grounds to the rescue!
