We are spending some time here before our Disney vacation starts. Going to Cocoa Beach and Kennedy Space Center, staying in Cape Canaveral. Any suggestions for the beach and/or area? Going in August. Yes, I know it will be sweltering:cutie::cutie::cutie:

I recommend parking at Lori Wilson Park and entering the public beach access there. When facing the ocean, the Hilton is the first hotel to your left and a great place to get an adult beverage and/or lunch in the Tiki bar in the shade. They also have chair and umbrella rentals there.

I second Lori Wilson Park. Parking is free, there are washrooms and change rooms just off the lot, and its easy access to the beach.

We have visited Cocoa Beach in August, and I can't stress strongly enough.....wear watershoes (or flip flops, or SOMETHING on your feet). The sand is so hot it will burn your skin. Take it from someone who has been there, done that ::yes::.

Is it possible to spend a reasonable amount of time at Lori Wilson and then be back in Orlando for an evening ADR at EPCOT?

You should have plenty of time if you got an early start and you have lots of energy.

Personally we are pretty toasted by the end of a beach day.
We prefer Daytona Beach but have visited Cocoa on occasion.
We are not the "lie around and roast in the sun" types. Our day at the beach is usually a couple of hour walk/paddle down the beach, followed by lunch and some adult bevies on the Pier or at a local establishment. Some more walking after lunch and maybe a swim, followed by some "cheesy" souvenir shopping. A stop at one of the local places for a bite to eat before we leave and then the drive back to WDW in the early evening. If we have any strength left at the end of the day, it's usually spent on our balcony with something cool to drink. If were feeling like rebels, maybe we'll go down to the pool area. When we stayed at CBR a few years ago, there was a hammock down by the beach that I claimed for just such an occasion ;)

The Florida sun and the ocean air seem to wear us down more than a day at the park, but we always feel refreshed the next day (unlike after a long park day)
