We are considering a day at the beach during our upcoming trip.

Does anyone have a favorite beach to recommend in the Cocoa Beach/Titusville area? any experience with the Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge?

The trip is the first week of February but we are hearty Canadians who swim in icy cold lakes during the summer so we'll likely be the crazy people who go swimming. :)

TIA!

We like the Holiday Inn resort by Jetty Park. They have a nice mini water park pool area and the beach is about a block away. You can see the cruise ships depart in the late afternoon.

The refuge is great with both walking trails and a scenic drive. The visitor center is nice also. I would also recommend the Canaveral National Seashore. Make sure you call ahead to both locations as activities at the Kennedy space Center can close both the refuge and the seashore. And, if the government shut down continues, activities at both locations may be limited in the near future.

My daughter wants to be an ornithologist so we have visited Merritt specifically for birding. It's fabulous for that, and we would definitely recommend the place.

Jetty Park in Cape Canaveral is nice for a beach day but you will pay to park though. Nearby, there are a lot of restaurants in the Cove area at the Port (Rising Tide is a local favorite). There’s also lots of free beach parking in small lots along Ridgewood Avenue in Cape Canaveral. Playalinda Beach in the Merritt Island wildlife refuge is beautiful & secluded.

Another positive word for Jetty Park. We have visited there a couple of times, starting with a visit when we needed handicap access to beach/ocean viewing which the walkway along the jetty provided. We also enjoyed the nearby Grills restaurant.
