My co- worker today told me they are going to Disney the same time as us. I asked if they got free dining and she said yes just used a free dining pin that her sister got in an email. I told her she can't use someone else's pin and she said they just book it under her sisters name, and since you don't have to physically check in thanks to the new skip the front desk and go straight to your room text, nobody checks ID, so nobody knows. Wow, I never would have thought of that, so are people actually doing this? Made me think if people are getting around missing free dining by one day by "checking in" a day or more before they even arrive? I know in November I had two rooms and put myself in my daughters room to get both rooms checked in the last day of free dining so we'd get it our entire 10 days over thanksgiving. It was a pain, because then my dining credits were on their room. Then when my co- worker said this I thought, wait, she's right, I never "checked in". I guess it's no big deal, but using someone else's pin is a no-no, and this is a definite loophole. Is it wrong that I hope she gets busted?:rotfl:

I don't really see it as a loophole. Not everyone gets to skip the front desk, even when you do online checkin. So that would be pretty risky.

The only thing is....even with checking in online, there has been only 1 time I have been able to skip the front desk. The other times, I still had to stop (text never came, etc.).

I wouldn't bank on it.

We got the military rate and I know for a fact that my son has to show his Army ID for the discount to matter in August. What your friend did is not a loophole, it is a scam. And I agree with you...I hope that she gets busted. This is the tripe that makes it bad for those who are honest.

Yep...I've never been able to by pass going to the check-in desk even when I do online check-in.

I thought you had to check in with an ID. Also employees have to be present or give permission ahead of time. At least I believe this is the case...

I agree it's a major risk. But I wonder if you are booking with a pin or bounceback, or something, they can see that and will make you check in- in person? Either way, she's going to be in trouble if they check. That's a lot of money to risk getting busted. But she's also the one who put an air mattress in a value with 5 people because POR was booked a couple of years ago. Again, not worth being thrown out.

If you co-workers name is on the reservation, he/she can still check in at the front desk. That would be like if my name and my boyfriend's name are both on the reservation and only I check in. My name is on the reservation so it wouldn't matter.

That is sneaky and no it's not bad you want them to get caught. All loopholes are figured out by Disney eventually it's just a matter of if they care enough to put more regulations in place.

I wouldn't call that a loophole either, but committing fraud, plain and simple. If she doesn't get to skip check in they will ask to see her ID. And ask her #1 why she isn't on the reservation and #2 where the person is who belongs to the pin code. Let her know that Disney can cancel her reservation for fraud, if they so choose. How great a trip would that be?

Honestly Disney has bigger issues to worry about then a handful of people making reservations on a pin that belongs to a family member. Its money in there pocket either way and even if she couldn't get free dining I'm sure she could get a discount that makes her savings less than $500.

Is it dishonest... yes. And I am guessing she will go as the sister as tickets are always part of the package and are non transferable. Will Disney deny and cancel her reservation if she has to go to the check in desk and they ask where the sister is... mostly she will just say she didn't fully understand the rules and didn't know she couldn't use the pin (which I am SURE has happened before)

I won't deny that I have "lied" about a 3rd person in my room. I find it ridiculous that I have to pay an extra $10-15 dollars a night for a 3rd adult in my room if we have 2 queen beds when I am booking a room only reservation. FP+ has now changed this with the 60 day onsite reservation but before that we often times only said 2 would be in the room.

They actually can and will charge her extra depending on how the system is set up. I'm not sure if it happens with Pin codes but for discounts like military, Florida residents, CM, AP, and DVC they ask for the identification and card of the person checking in. If you don't have that person they will rebook the entire thing at rack rate! So it is usually much more than a $500 savings because you pay what that room would book at that day.

People thought Disney had bigger things to worry about than who filled what cup with pop. People once thought Disney had bigger things to worry about then people circumventing paying for parking by using Disney Springs as a hub. And both of those loopholes have been closed. And then there is booking more days then you need for a discount, and then cutting back. They took care of that one too.

By the way (to use your own words) I find it ridiculous that people think they can decide what fees they do and do not have to pay, and lie to get out of paying them. Yeah, I hope the OP's friend shows up, has to go check in, and at the very least loses the discount.

We traveled in April and had a split stay - All Star Sports (1night), DVC stay at BCV, and then CBR. We used AP rates for Sports and CBR (3? nights) and NEVER went to the front desk our entire stay there. (Didn't go at BCV either but no card discount would be required there)

We got our check in text and went straight to our room and did not need to stop there at checkout either.

I'm not condoning the behavior - but just saying that we didn't have to show our cards. B

Really a PIN? I haven't heard any reports of free dining pins this year. Either way I wouldn't call it a loop hole. I would call it fraud since it clearly is breaking the rules/stipulations of the promotion. Way too risky and wrong for me.

WOW!!! Is this what you teach your children?

This line always cracks me up - I can't remember the last time my kids had a clue about how I was paying for a hotel room? Nevermind if I was not paying the required fee for something (anything really). I have not had to make this choice , and I am not encouraging those who do, but responses like this are maddening! There are 3 adults in the room - what if there are no kids!!
