I was wondering, do Cast Members get any special deals or incentives on buying DVC??:earboy2:

Yes, they do get a nice discount....with strings attached. They can not sell their membership on the open market, Disney will buy it back at price paid...and I think there are restrictions on allowing them to rent out the points.

A Disney CM receives 25% the current price and then subtract out any incentives. That would make AKV $70 per point and SSR $68 a point as long as Disney is doing the $8 off AKV or the $10 off SSR incentives still.

Chuck S is correct on the restrictions, but that is a pretty good deal to pass up even with restrictions.

hmmm...not sure about this one, unless it is new rule. I bought one of my contracts for $48 a point and sold it for $75 pt. Not even sure if it's the one disney bought back or not. I sold 3, disney bought back one, but $75 was the least amount i sold for, others were even higher. (back then the going price was $63 approx.) Also, back when i bought, you rec'd a 15% discount PLUS current incentives.
Maybe this is something new to keep cm's from buying and reselling at profit.

Let me revise a little. Florida base CMs get a 25% discount (if that is still going on). Walt Disney Company CMs (from other parts of the company -- DL, ABC, ESPN, Disney Direct) get a lesser discount. When we bought in, hubby was a CM for the Disney Catalog and we got a 15% discount, plus the current incentives. We also did not have to sign anything in regards to selling later (if we ever wanted to). While the 25% would've been great, we were still happy with the 15% discount. Now if I could only get hubby to go back and work as a snowbird in WDW I could save more money and buy more points!

The restrictions were put in place about 1-2 years ago. If a person purchased prior to that, they do not have any restrictions, but new purchases will.

Hm.. what about friends of castmembers? lol.. I live too far away to work at WDW but have friends that do. Do you know if they give a discount if you work at the Disney store? I should have thought about that last winter when I was there! I might have to pick up another part time job this Christmas!

Disney Store personnel are no longer Disney CMs, the Disney Stores (in the US) are not operated by Disney, they were sold to "The Childrens Place" a few years ago.

Actually, it doesn't have to be "immediate" family. our guide told us it can be uncles, cousins...as long as you are related. not sure how they'd check on that though. i was surprised at how far they'd allow it.

Oh I know, but they still offer courtesy passes for the parks and discounts there so I guess I was just hoping it would carry over to DVC as well.

I'm not sure how they would check to see if your "cousin" is really related either, but I'd hate to lie and have them find out and ban me or something LOL..

Keep in mind that when you get the discount for the family member, the CM must be on the contract too. That is something some folks would not want to do. It's one thing for the CM to be a spouse, parent or child, but like lots of families, I wouldn't want that financial tie to some of my relatives.

Just total speculation here... but if somebody was going to buy $40,000 worth of DVC, a $10,000 discount would be mighty nice. Exactly how hard is it to become a CM?

First you'd have to be willing to work for about $8 per hour........
