i tried to research the forum and see if this was covered recently, but couldn't find any threads, we received a letter a couple of weeks ago regarding cast members renting their points and what a no-no this is. just wondered if this was standard mail out or have they had a recent rash of cms renting out their points lately? we haven't received this letter before, so i wondered if any one else had gotten the same letter.

what would be the acceptable way for a cm to rent out points, if they were not going to use them one year? when we bought it was mentioned that we should be able to do that sort of thing, no mention of any restrictions on cms renting.

Wow -- I can't remember seeing anything posted about this before. Honestly, I don't see how Disney can restrict CM's from renting points when other members are allowed to do so. I hope some other CM's reply to see if they have also received the same correspondence.

I haven't heard anything about it but would assume it's an issue of CM renting, not renting in general. I can see where it would be an issue. Since they give CM a discount, I must assume they have a formal policy somewhere. I wonder if there was any additional information provided to CM when they use their discount or if it's in a manual somewhere. Since renting is expressly allowed of members, I guess an employee could push it. You just need to decide if it's worth putting your job on the line. You can be that any CM who rented through channels available to them as an employee would be in hot water. Can you imagine a CRO member who rented out their points on a reservation call or a resort employee who rented by the pool.

I know a little about this and apparently Disney considered this a conflict of interest.

we never consider renting, it just seems to be a lot of work to save some money on a cruise or so forth, even though according to others on these boards we're fools for not doing that. after all the discussions on here, i was just a little surprised to get the letter addressing the issue, i guessed that it must have gotten out of hand. maybe too many cms buying points just to be timeshare landlords or such.

as a matter of disclosure, we got the cm discount through my dfil, who is a retired cm. i am pretty familiar with the disney ways as a result.
