OK - i haven't been paying attention something new comes around that i know nothing about. i am finding folks talking about meal vouchers. What the heck are they???

are they disney based, or only thru outside ticket brokers? (i.e. connections)
how much do they cost?
Are they only for breakfasts? lunches? dinners?
Are they for special events such as character meals or dinner shows?
What all do you get?
Are they only good at certain restaurants? parks?
Where can you purchase them? can they be purchased in advance or your trip?

enlighten me

- lori

I have seen lots of auctions for the vouchers (like ones through Connections) on ebay for ~15 apiece. Will I really save with these? Looking at the menus, prices, etc., seems like I'll come out about even.

Lori, to answer your question... Go to ebay, do a search for "disney vouchers." The auctions have a pretty good explanation. I am searching the boards to find out if these are really a good deal or not.... and how to get them from the original source (Connections.com and someone posted about Lillion Vernon having them..)

As long as you don't pay more than $15 for each of them, they are definitly worth it. You also need to keep in mind that you paid $15 for them and when ordering, make sure that you get your money's worth. Many people use the vouchers and split a meal or use 3 vouchers to feed 4 people. This usually seems to work pretty good. We used 4 of them on the last trip that we had gotten from a tour of DVC, and the bill came to about $80, of which the vouchers covered the entire bill. It was pretty sweet. We will be bringing some with us this time.

Last year I bought ten vouchers for $150 on Ebay -- $15 each. I didn't really think things through too well. It was just me and my seven year old, and we were only staying for five days. I found that I was so worried about using up the vouchers, and getting a good deal, that I spent way too much time trying to figure out which counter place to eat at to get a good deal, and getting bummed because my son didn't eat much, or wanted the cheap things on the menu instead of the more expensive meals. Plus normally I didn't want to split things with him -- I wanted what I wanted (hamburger) and he wanted what he wanted (chicken fingers in some form, and I don't like chicken). So we always had way too much food, and ended up throwing a lot away, which made me uncomfortable. Finally, I know a tip is supposedly included, but what does that mean -- does the waiter actually get the tip? Any place we sat down and ordered, I always felt that I had to leave a tip, so I did.

So for some families -- big eaters, who like the same food -- I bet it would work great (but I definitely don't think you should pay more than fifteen dollars, and actually I think twelve would make more sense). For me, it was one more thing to obsess over -- this year, no meal vouchers (maybe I'll miss them, who knows?).
