My sister and I are staying CL for the first time our next trip.
We opted to not get a dining plan because instead we are just going to do QS meals.
Our plan is to take full advantage of CL lounge on our arrival and departure days then for our park days take advantage of breakfast and possibly grab a few drinks/snacks for the parks and limit the amount of extra expensive treats in the parks.
I would say that if you plan on doing a number of TS meals then yes perhaps get the DDP but if you will be taking good advantage of the CL lounge or mostly planning Q!S and maybe just a TS meal then just pay OOP.

We do club with kids 10 & 13 and we get the DDP mainly because it’s free with our bounce back, but would still do it, we like to go to table service restaurants for dinner. We’re not big breakfast eaters so what they offer in the lounge in the am is perfect for us. The evening selection are great snacks or apps but for a picky eaters or bigger appetites it may not be enough.

The thing is, if you had the intention of spending time at the resort and using the food in the lounge, because the dining plan will include a lot of snacks and refillable mug that will give you something similar to what you're essentially already getting in the club lounge, you're double paying for those items. So even though food prices may have gone up, you'll probably be spending more on the dining plan than if you take advantage of the lounge food and just pay out of pocket for the additional food you'll want.

I agree, calulate what you think you’ll spend on meals and see if it’s worth it, we ended up the last few years using all of our dining credits lunch at pool or parks and the table service for dinner.

We never get the dining plan whether we stay club level or not. We just don’t eat the way the plan is set up. Sometimes all I want is an appetizer or salad at dinner. To us it’s not worth it.

The only way you're going to know is to do the math. Go look at where you think you might eat and "order" as if you're there. Calculate the cost and compare it to the dining plan. Don't forget alcoholic drinks for the adults, specialty drinks for the kids, and the 6.5% sales tax. Also, remember all 5 of you are considered adults when it comes to paying for the plan or any buffet, fixed price meals.

Yes that’s what I’m thinking... like if we go to Ohana... I would have to pay $50 for my daughter who will prob just eat noodles

And if the testing of fried rice holds, she won't even be eating noodles.

The food is crazy expensive but so is the dining plan. With a picky eater, you almost always do better paying out of pocket. But definitely do the math.
