If you order a club sandwich in a restaurant (or make one at home) which do you prefer, hot or cold?

I've ordered club sandwiches in many restaurants over the years and had never had a hot one until last night.

Our granddaughter will be starting her senior year of college next week (plus she works almost full-time) and she took a week off to just have some fun before going back, so texted me to see if she could come over and spend the night. We took her to a local pub for dinner as she's 21 and she wanted to "have a beer with Papa." :)

So I ordered the club sandwich and was really surprised when it came and it was a hot sandwich. The bread was toasted like normal, but then the meats (turkey, bacon and ham) were all hot, so that melted the cheese and the lettuce was quite wilted.

It was okay, but I expected a cold sandwich so next time I'll just ask them if they will make it cold instead of heating the meats.

Loved taking our granddaughter out though, and spending time with her! :)

I've never heard of a hot club sandwich before.

The club sandwiches I order have always been served with cold deli meat, toasted bread and hot bacon.

Yep, same here. So, I guess I would say that it's kinda half & half/warm? Since the bread is still warm from toasting and the bacon is still hot from cooking, but the rest is cold (veggies, deli meats).

I ordered a meatball sandwich once expecting a sandwich that I could pick up and eat, but I got 2 pieces of bread with meatballs in the middle covered in sauce. Not what I was expecting at all, lots of soggy bread and I needed to use a fork and a knife to eat it.

I'm assuming a club sandwich is what we New Englanders call a "grindah", right? LOL I know they go by heros, subs, etc. Ours are called grinders.

Anyhow, if I make one at home, it's always cold. If I order one from a restaurant, I always get it hot. It's a choice here. They'll ask if you want it toasted. And then it depends on where you go, whether just the bread is toasted or whether the whole grinder (bread, meats, cheese) is toasted.

I like toasted both ways (just the bread and the bread/meats/cheese)

Once in a blue moon, I'll order it cold too.

The meat should be warm, everything else room temp.

Typically--clubs are served on regular sandwich bread. It is not the same as a sub/hero/Po boy etc. It can be created those ways. But they are not traditional clubs.

I always assumed it was luke warm because of the toast. Never thought about it being hot though. Pretty sure mine have always been a bit warmer than room temperature

Room temperature bacon and deli meat, toasted bread. I would not like a hot club sandwich tyvm.

I've had it both ways. The Earl's Club from Earl of Sandwich is hot. Yum!

yeah, after I posted I realized this one, the old Jack n the Box club that was served on a Kaiser roll, and a Quiznos version are all good. I was thinking of the traditional club with toasted sliced sandwich bread (3 slices). I think that's the difference for me. Some breads handle warm meats better than others.

Yep, to me a 'CLUB' is the traditional club sandwich, served cold.
I am thinking of the old-school sandwich, like a BLT with turkey and cheese, on toasted slices of bread. Yummy!!!!

But, these days, any sandwich that comes with some cheese and bacon is often called a club. Like the hot fried-chicken or even spicy chicken clubs at some fast food restaurants.
