We are staying @ RPR in December for 2 nights. We are wondering if we should do Club level or the universal dinning plan.
We have 2 kids 2 and 7. Everyone keeps telling us to stay at RPR. But I'm not sold on it. I hate the word value resort. I like nice things and pretty rooms. Please help!!

Roya Pacific is not a value resort. Wherever did you get that idea???

I wouldn't do the dining plan.

I must agree. I've stayed at RPR and it is far from a value resort. Don't be fooled by the price, nor the fact there is no pool slide. The pool at RPR is very nice with a ship that has interactive water elements. You can also pool hop at either of the 2 other resorts. I hear the Hard Rock has a very nice pool slide.

As Kevin mentioned RPR is probably beneath the Hard Rock and Portifino as far as a resort experience, but it's still a wonderful resort. You could definately compare it to a Disney deluxe resort in many ways.

AAA has rated it a 4 diamond resort.

That puts it on par with the five 4 diamonds in WDW:

Grand Floridian
Polynesian
Beach Club
Yacht Club
Contemporary

That also makes it rated better than Animal Kingdom, Wilderness Lodge (3.5 star) and any of the other nicer hotels. It is nowhere near a value resort.

And all three of the Universal properties are 4 star resorts, so while the HRH and Portofino have slides and a bit larger rooms, the quality of service and the amenities are all the same.

Besides, unlike Disney, you are encouraged to pool hop if you want a slide.

Compared to Portofino and HRH it is.

A value resort is a one or two star resort. None of the Universal resorts are value resorts. RPR isn't even always cheapest.

Jillianjewels, look at this website and you can compare the three hotels. It should put your mind at ease.

RPR has excellent restaurants. The fact that it has an Emeril's restaurant should reassure you that this is no value resort.

Thank you for your imput. I'm sorry the word value was a hot word. I'm sure all of the resorts are nice. I think we will do a suite or RPR or club AT HRH depending on availability.
Since I didn't hear much about the dining plan through universal we won't do that.
Thanks Again!!

Your 2 year old will enjoy the Royal Pacific more than the other hotels IMO. The splash ground there is a lot of fun for the little ones!

The dining plan at Universal allows you to eat at counter service. There are so many great restaurants, it is more advisable to try them out. Try to make sure and eat at Mythos. It has been rated as the #1 Theme Park restaurant for many, many years.

Value resorts on the Disboards refer to the values at WDW such as the All Star resorts. WDW has three levels of hotels: value, moderate and deluxe. All the hotels at Universal are comparable to the Disney deluxe. We want to make sure that no one thinks that although RPR is often the cheapest of the three, it is by any means comparable to the value resorts at WDW.

All the Universal hotels are very pretty and very luxurious.

I would do Club Level at RPR and skip the meal plan.

RPR is a first class resort and you will be delighted, especially if you are comparing it to one of the value hotels at Disney. You are in for a treat.

Not to beat a dead horse, but reading about value resorts and all, made me think. "Would Emeril put a resteraunt in a value resort?" LOL

I will remember to never use the word "value" again. This is not a Disney resort so why try to compare it. I thought this board was to ask questions. Not to attack someone and make them feel stuid.
I won't bother with any more questions...

I hope you don't think anybody was attacking you or trying to make you feel stupid. I don't think that was anybody's intention. :flower3:

You said you liked nice things and pretty rooms and didn't feel you would get it from a value resort like the Royal Pacific.

The answers were just to inform as to the fact that the Royal Pacific has all the pretty things and is indeed a deluxe resort, comparable with the best resorts in Walt Disney World. All anybody here wanted was for you to have the facts so that you could make an informed decision.

I apologize that you felt attacked and hope you continue to ask questions.

Keep on asking questions Jillian. You started out by saying you hated the term value hotel so we are trying to reassure you that any hotel at Universal won't be a "value" hotel by pointing out the things that make it not a value hotel. I can see, as a new person to our forum, how you might think we are attacking though, and I apologize for that. As a new poster, we have no idea what your experience is with Disney or Universal but rest assured we are not trying to make you feel stupid -- read through the other threads on this page and you will see that we aren't like that here but take a lot of time to give advice to newcomers.

I also apologize. I in no means meant to attack, I meant it only as a joke (perhaps a bad one). But in no means meant to put you do down in anyway.

Now we are over that.We have stayed at WDW resorts and all the 3 on-site resorts at US.And to this day RPR is our fam fav..:thumbsup2

With the option to pool hop makes it even better..

We have never done club YET.This can change come October.

All three resorts are ran by Loews,So they are all top notch resorts.Loews has a high standards with customer service, and treating thier guest like gold..

If you have a bad expirence at thier resort, report it too the managment and see what they give ya.Done this at DW and it was oh-well..LONG STORY..

Now donn't get me wrong,I love DW.But US is closer to my heart now!!!

I LOVE the Royal Pacific! I have stayed on the club floor at HRH and RP and prefer the Royal Pacific club BY FAR. The lounge is much larger and offers a better product, in my opinion. They also offer internet access via a computer in the lounge which was great. The lounge at HRH is way too small for the number of guests it must take care of.

That said, HRH does have a nicer pool area. And their rooms are larger. My ideal would be to stay at RP club and perhaps rent a cabana for a day at the HRH pool. The best of both worlds.

I have stayed at the Portofino but never in club level. Its a great resort but a little too spread out and quiet for us...and a bit too far away from the parks.

Either way you will enjoy your vacation. FYI, I did not like the meal plan at all at Universal. It is for fast food choices (at least when I was there) and the quality was low. There are so many great restuarants at Citywalk and Mythos. And Emeril's at the RP is great, too!
