So it looks like the weather will be turning cold right before the 1/2. Morning in the mid 30's, afternoon in the low 60's feeling like the 50's.

I was planning on a long sleeve tech shirt with my Wish shirt over it and capris with a blanket to cover up until the start. Do I need a jacket also that I can tie around my waist if I get hot during the race?

Whats everyone else planning on?

Just trying to avoid buying anything I don't really need at this point as I jog in shorts and a short sleeve shirt 11 1/2 months out of the year.

Thanks!!

I might plan a jacket to tie around your waist or a throw away sweat shirt. In 06 it didn't warm up at all and I wore 3 LS tech shirts and fleece jacket the whole race. I did a 3:04 1/2. Be prepared as you are from FL and I was from Tahoe(a snow country)

Lots of people use throw-away clothes - Disney collects them, cleans them, and donates them. Also consider a pair of those cheap gloves to wear before the race starts, I like to get to the race as early as possible and staying warm is important. Some people wear those clear disposable rain ponchos (or garbage bags) before the start. Some people wear an old pair of knee high socks as gloves while they are waiting. And don't forget your head! If it is really cold like it was in 2006 you'll want a cap or at least something for your ears!

I guess a lot depends on the runner!

For my first half where it was in the low 30's at the start I wore my tights, long sleeve running shirt with a cotton t-shirt over it, jacket, cheap hat and cheap gloves.

At mile one the cotton t-shirt was "donated" Probably in the next mile the jacket went around my waist and gloves came off (I lost one so keep it cheap) The hat stayed on for most of the race. And it never really got "warm" on this course! LOL!

However, since Suzanne lives in Florida she's probably going to think it's colder then those of us from the north. :)

I am thinking of heading out and looking for a cheap "blanket" for the pre-race since it is so long here!

Speaking as a South Floridian (Fort Lauderdale-area), here is what I wear when it gets cold (as it is predicted to be for the half) and it works for me...

Oh - and EVERYTHING is Dri-Fit fabric...

Sports bra - Singlet - long sleeve shirt on top (probably the shirt from last year's Marathon) and then my jacket and capri pants (although I am really short so they actually go to my ankles)...

On my head I will wear my Nike sport cap and then if it is really cold, I will wear my fleece headband to cover my ears.

If it is really, really cold and/or windy, I will grab my fleece scarf and gloves and wrap it around my neck/face.

I find that I might be all bundled up at the beginning but then I start removing layers as needed. I wear my water belt so I am able to "hang" up my removed layers...

It might not be the most fashon-forward of looks (well unless you are a sherpa) but again, it works for me and I have never lost any of my stuff...also, I find that I get warm-cold-warm during the race and I always have the right amount of stuff with me to put back on if necessary...

I have done this all along in my training so you might be able to make due with things you already have...

Hope this helps!

I was planning on wearing my running skirt and a t-shirt. If it's really cold, I may switch to a long sleeved shirt or capris and a t-shirt. Even though I've trained in cold weather, most of my long runs were done in much colder weather so I'm a little confused myself.

About the throw-away clothing... if I bring a sweat shirt or blanket, do I have to get rid of it at the start or can I toss it to the side of the road later on during the race?

You can toss clothing at any time on the course...just make sure that you drop your stuff somewhat out of the way so that no one trips over it...

Or else you can pass it off to a volunteer along the way or at one of the water stops.

If you throw away clothing after the start, make sure it is way off course as so nobody trips over it. People will be running everywhere including the grass so make sure out of their path. As RD, I would appreciate ditching near aid station so don't have to chase clothing everywhere.

Thanks for the replies! Makes sense! If I hang onto my sweatshirt, I'll make sure to get rid of it at the first water stop.

I'm not certain what exactly I'll be wearing on THE day. I'll be packing like John Bingham suggested--with almost everything I have for the event(s) and decide how I "feel" once I'm there. Ugh.

Layers though, definitely layers.
