Closing on a timeshare resale, how long till you were in the Disney system?

Thanks for holding my hand yet again , I was wondering how long it took Disney for you to get you in their system so you could make ressies.

The Timeshare Closing Service is closing all of our paperwork as of today and disbursing funds to the seller as soon as she gets the payout info. Our check has been sent and closing docs signed and arrived. Our stuff will be overnighted to Disney tonight.

The lady at the Timeshare Closing Service said Disney requests 10 days for you to get into the system. But that sounds like it possibly won't take the full 10 days.

How long did it take you?

Thank you for the hand holding! We newbies need it sometimes! I'm just so excited to have our first ressies as members! (Plus I need to bank our points by Aug. 31st in order to get full credit, so I'm up against the clock in more ways than one!)

Also, how long did it take you to get your membership book? Do you think they'd let me get that stuff when I'm down there in September?

Our resale is also closing today and would like to know the same info. We have to beat the clock also because we have to use 280 points by Nov. 30 and so the sooner I can get a ressie, the better. Hopefully for both of us it does not take a whole 10 days.

It should take about 3-5 business days for you to appear in the Disney DVC reservations system.

Given the information you provided in your post, I suggest that you call member services on Monday. If they don't see you in the system yet and you need to make an immediate reservation, ask the cast member if he/she can inquire with member accounting to see if the process can be expedited. They were able to do that for me when we bought our first resale contract.

When we closed in June, it was less than a week until we were in the system. It took about 1 1/2 months to get the member card.

First resale took about a week. However, the contract we closed in July was in Disney's system the day after closing (thanks Jaki!). Our contract had expiring points so everyone went out of their way to get us in.

first of all, congratulations and welcome HOME.
To answer your question, if you close today, you should be in the system by Tuesday of next week but your points might not be there when you first call in. Give it a few days if that happens.

I am in the same boat - I was told I would be in the system on Aug 26th. My question is when we call Member Services how do they identify us as members without a membership #? If we provide personal info such as ss# is that sufficient? Will they be able to tell us what our membership # is at that time?

Give them last name or SSN - they can find you and will give you your member number before you get your card. You might be surprised and be in the system sooner than you think. We made a reservation they day after closing.

Do you get a temporary membership card before the permanent one?

I'll be closing the end of the month, but will be staying a few days on rented points in the middle of September. I'd like to get free valet parking. You show your membership card for this, correct?

We received the membership package from Disney within two weeks after closing but temporary membership card was not part of the package. If you need a membership card right away for your upcoming trip, I'd call MS as soon as you close and see if they can expedite delivery of your membership card, temporary or permanent.
It's almost been a month since we closed and I wouldn't even know my own membership number if I hadn't called MS to make a reservation.

Hello: The timelines are well appreciated. Wow, it takes about a month before you can book on a resale. I purchased a contract from DVC(BCV last year) and within 2 days I could book. I guess you have to weigh your nail biting time and your booking time waiting against the extra cost of buying from Disney. Sometimes there isn't any or much difference between the prices. Especially for the tough to get resorts(BCV WL). A resales with virtually no points left in this year are selling for $76 plus $4 for closing and DVC are selling them for $84 and all this year's points and only partial maintanance fees. Boy it sees too close to call. Your thoughts. Thanks

From what you've said, I should be in the clear very soon! We closed today officially and they sent the closing docs to Disney. They should receive them tomorrow. That means I'll try calling next week just to see if they have me in the system and then I can try making my ressies.

DVC is now selling the sold out resorts for $89. I just paid $70 and got all 220 2004 pts and only paid half the 2004 MFs. IMHO, I'll take resale every time. That is a significant savings for a month of waiting.

<font face="times" size="+0">Glad the timeline helps. Yeah, I kept a very detailed log of the process. I have a timeline for adding on direct through DVC also. (It's true, you can pretty much make reservations w/ your new add-on points in about a day or two.)

BTW, Canadian Tom, that would be longer than a month actually because the days are counted as BUSINESS days (M-F, excluding holidays). So from submitting the verbal offer to when I was able to book a reservation took 32 business days!</font>

Mine closed last Thursday and I'm in the system today! Was worried it might take a few more days with MS closing last week (Charley).
