We are arriving late the day before our buy 4 get 3 stay at the Yacht club. I wanted to stay offsite that first night. Since we want to be at rope drop at AK the next morning, what would be the closest hotel to AK? I prefer a Marriott brand hotel, but Hyatt is ok (I can use MyPoint rewards for stays there.)

I plan to go to rope drop, stay at AK until lunch, then go check in at Yacht club, drop car off at National at the Dolphin, then potentially head back to AK if there is still stuff we want to see or go to DTD at night. We have TRex reservations at 8 pm.

Have you thought about buying points from a DVC member to stay just one night at AKL? You didn't mention when you are arriving, but in the value season (S-Th) you can book a value studio for 8 points. Points are being resold for an average of $10, so that would be $80.00. Fri/Sat. for value season rates start at 16 points, so approx. $160.00. Anyhow, something to look into. If you are flying into MCO there is a Hyatt right at the airport that you can stay at. It looks very nice and is super convenient. There is also a group of seven hotels that are non-Disney in the downtown Disney area, but no Marriott or Hyatt. There is a Hilton, which IMHO is similiar to Marriott. The other closest resort that might be comparable to the Marriott, is the Wyndham Bonnet Creek Resort. I found some properties by using the link below, maybe you will see one that will work for you. Good Luck!

I was thinking AKL, but I would be disappointed if we get in really late and then leave early that I wouldn't get to see the hotel.

Actually we are driving from my inlaws in Tampa on Saturday. I just have a feeling they won't let us leave as early as I would like to get to Disney, so I don't want to plan something great and then be disappointed that we don't arrive until late. I don't want to start our vacation with a fight and I think that is what would happen if I try to book something fun like AKL. I would want to get there as early as possible to enjoy the animals! DMIL will give DH a guilt trip about leaving and spending some of our vacation elsewhere, so I don't want to plan anything.
